Bella made another friend down at the fields. This time it was a 6 month old black lab mix named Smokey. She was very intimidated and insecure at first but Bella just kept working her and within 10 minutes they were screaming around the fields chasing each other having a grand time.
My sister and her hubby bought 1/2 a grass fed cow. I asked if they had any bones for broth I could buy. She asked and was told soup and "dog" bones were free.
She brought me about 7 pounds of meaty bones that I roasted then simmered in the soup pot for 2 days with bay leaves, rosemary and a couple of big chopped carrots. It made 1.5 gallons of bone broth and about 3 cups of rendered marrow fat.
I kept the carrots and meat and have been giving that to the dogs the last few days and have been smearing the beef fat into the neighbors tree that has the bird feeders and the maple in our front yard.
