BYC Café

Shade cloth doesn't help with heat much when it's cloudy...and 92°.
So I installed the fan, to cool things off faster later.

After doing the annual cleaning in the coop and seeing just how much dust accumulated in/on the box fan I use to improve circulation in the coop on warm nights, I bungee corded my new air compressor blasted fan to the front window so it's pulling fresh air in and blowing it into the coop. Hopefully that helps.

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee, Margie. I'm glad you are getting some peace and quiet.

I have been working hard trying to get most of the spring gardening done before leaving so I don't lose 2 growing weeks. I'll get another load of mulch today to finish the front landscaping then rake dried grass from the lawn to at least mulch around my bedding plants before I go.

Yesterday morning when I went out to feed the birds, Mystic was sitting on the roost. Uh oh. That's never a good sign when everyone else left the coop. I got ahold of her and sure enough, she had a squishy crop. No smell. I can't expect my nephew to treat a bird with a slow or sour crop and I'll be gone for 2 weeks! So I gave her a good crop massage for about 5 minutes and let her go.
That seemed to have done the trick as she was out foraging and sun bathing later that day and this morning was off the roost with the rest. Whew.

I released Tink from broody jail 3 days ago and Jody took her place that night. Last night when I was taking wash off the line shortly before dusk I heard her start to WAIL out there. I couldn't take it so I released her one day early. I hope it made an impression on her hormones. Otherwise, my nephew will be pulling her out of a nest box every night.

I've been told that I should get a moss stick for it to climb on. I don't know how much bigger it can grow before it needs one.
This indoor plant business is starting to cost money taking into account food, plant pots, compost etc.
Something needs to stimulate the economy!

I let Betty out of the buster 2 days ago after 4 days in. She headed right back to the nest box so got a return visit to the buster. I let her out again today but I'll not be surprised if she is back in the nests when I go out this afternoon.

Hopefully that helps.
I'm sure it will though exhaust fans move air better than intake fans.

It will definitely keep the fan much cleaner.

Exhausting the air will may turn the coop volume over more quickly,
but a dusty fan is dangerous, not to mention annoying as hell.

Dug up a start from my neighbor's rhubarb (with her permission, of course). I planted that and the two I bought. I also planted 30 more hills of potatoes. 18 were a blue type, Magic Molly, and the other 12 were sprouting Elbas from my basement. This is my first try with blue potatoes. We'll see how it goes...
I love the blue ones, they are delicious! :drool
