I got 28 tomato plants planted in the garden today. When I read that, it sounds like no big deal. Except that soil is so heavy, and I plant them deep. 32 more to go in that garden, and then 5 cherry tomatoes in the sandy soil garden. That'll be a piece of cake by comparison, so I'm leaving it for last. :)
What??!!
I plant 3 plants and keep one volunteer grape tomato plant and can't begin to keep up with what they produce. I'll be canning as much as I can to keep me going with soups through the winter.

My plants have not been very productive. This year I am going all out to up their output. Mulch, bunny poop, wood chips, compost, and maybe purchased tomato food.

I can about 50-60 quarts, and also make about 20 pints of salsa. I also want to try drying some too. The cherry tomatoes are for snacking and salads.

We use at least a quart of tomatoes per week. I'm looking at more soup/stew type meals to make this year.
