BYC Café

It was a beautiful day here. And not just because Michigan won The Game. :)

I got a batch of bone broth made. I save the solid stuff that isn't going to be used in the next batch for the chickens, to mix in their mash at snack time 1-2x a week. I'm sure it's pretty rich, so I spread it out over several weeks.

Poor Stormy looks the most bedraggled of the bunch. I'm thankful for the relatively warm weather while her feathers grow back.

I just made bone broth too. Now making soup with half of it.

I took advantage of the dry morning to mow the lawn/mulch the leaves for the last time this season.
Did the chickens pen too.
One of the hens, Alecia (Aunt Alecia as she seems to really love the chicks and defends the moms when skirmishes break out but has never been broody) has brass balls. She isn't remotely afraid of the tractor and wants to be the first there to scratch through whatever it throws out. Makes it a pain sometimes to get the grass cut when I'm yelling at her and driving around her.
I just downed some Paleo pumpkin raisin pancakes and am heading down to run the dogs with a heavily padded/bandaged foot for Skittles.

Thanks for the coffee!

I woke up to rain. Freya didn't want to go outside. Good thing she "did both" last night, because she didn't leave the porch. Half Lab? HAH!

@DobieLover, what do you do with the water glassing solution after you use all the eggs? Just save it for the next season, or dump it? Is there a safe way to dump it out, or is it not a big deal?

I dump it in the woods. I live in an area that gets acid rain so a little alkaline solution will just neutralize the soil where I dump it.
