Because the Powerwall is a very expensive option not many can afford.
After flipping five houses, downsizing, doing all the work on my current house myself and keeping all the money from selling my first primary residence to finish my retirement home, I had enough money left over to afford this. And I think after all I've gone through I deserve it.
ABSOLUTELY! You've earned it, many times over, IMO.
Congratulations! :hugs :hugs

I took Piper to the local Humane Society tonight to get her first rabies shot. She is officially a law breaker as she is 5.5 months old and was supposed to have it no later than at 4 months of age. So sue me.

It was 29F with very brisk winds and the waiting line was outside. I had Piper in her jammies bundled up in my wool trench coat but I forgot gloves so I had one hand in my pocket under Piper's butt and the other wrapped over her head trying to keep her ears warm. I estimate I was out in that wind for at least 1/2 hour. By the time we finally got in the building my feet, legs and head were freezing and my right hand was nearly useless with the index finger nearly white. I was very concerned I had frostbite. But everything warmed up in the car after we were done and turned back to the right color.

The dogs and the people that go to these events.

HORRIBLE!
There was a pair of pit bulls growling, barking and lunging at all the dogs and they were just 2 spaces behind us! The owners of them finally gave up waiting after about 10 minutes and I was relieved to see them go. Another man kept swearing at his dog and threatening to hit her. I then watched a different man slapping his dog in the face. The rest where shrilly barking and pulling on their leashes. Piper just watched and never joined in the cacophony.

And WHAT are these people feeding their dogs??!! The amount of squishy huge piles of crap or outright puddles of diarrhea everywhere was disgusting. Talk about a mine field!
Yeah, most people have no idea how to train their dogs. I used to teach dog obedience classes.

What I saw that was a major issue is the people with the aggressive pit bulls were trying to distract them from their locking onto and growling at other dogs by GIVING THEM TREATS!! So they were just reinforcing and rewarding that aggressive behavior. SMH.

Yes - we have a battery bank for storage, but that is because we are completely off grid. I think down at my parents place they aren’t allowed the battery bank because it’s connected to the grid. The power company made their life difficult for that one too as they have a large set of panels (promised them one thing and then tried to back out when it was almost complete).

Here’s a photo of the off grid from the air - it has a set of three large compound panels (right red circle) and then an additional large compound panel (left red circle) to catch the late-afternoon/evening sun.

The Tesla Powerwall that is being installed here will automatically disconnect from the grid if an outage occurs. That way linesmen are safe to do their work.

I can see where that would be a problem with self designed/installed batteries. They may not have the line voltage sensing circuitry that things like the Tesla Powerwall do. If your parents want battery backup it might be worth checking with the utility to see what needs to be installed to allow it.
