BYC Café

Good afternoon, Cafe!

Thanks for the coffee @DobieLover :caf
Ponding is VERY addictive. I tried to design this one so that the maintenance was easy so I can do it well into retirement. The time will come where I will hire in help.
We gave up on the idea of having a nice big pond as the maintenance would be just too much with the dogs jumping about in it and wild ducks and other birds just waiting for the opportunity to swim and poooop in it..:rolleyes:

Our meadows are still partly flooded and lots of wild ducks love to bath, dive and splash there every day.

I hope to live where we are as long as is possible. When I can no longer maintain my property I hope to 'hire in help'. For now I do it so that I will be able to do it. I am a firm believer in 'use it or lose it'. I am also fully aware that so far the Princess and I have been blessed with good health.
Ditto! DH and I are SOOOO lucky!

When I lose sight of that, like now, when my thumb aches (arthritis, I guess), I remember friends and people I have worked with in the past:

Kim H who got MS
Kim J who is a very brittle type 1 diabetic and has dementia now
Angela who is allergic to just about about everything in the air
Bart who has chronic kidney stones
Charlie who has enough metal in his ankle to get stuck to magnets
Russ who had both hips replaced

And then I slap myself for feeling, "oh, poor little ol' me, my thumb hurts."

I have been having issues with TMJ, and IBS, plus my pinkie finger aches so much i almost want it amputated. With my luck, i would have phantom pain. I gets old having pain all the time. I just try to get something to at least take the edge off. Tylenol Arthritis is my Dr's latest recommendation because i can't take Ultram.
Also, i try to keep myself busy with projects so i don't sit around thinking of how much it hurts.
There will always be others in worse shape. But we just have to do the best we can with what we have. Hugs.

The nice thing about my pond is it's small, right smack next to the house and there are better, larger natural ponds all around me that the water fowl stick to. Now... the frogs on the other hand.
I got the flow running through the settling tank really well and it's now set up for good mechanical filtration. I have the water fall running and it's not leaking which was the number one thing I needed to be sure of. I need to majorly tweak the course of the water with waterfall foam but it's going to have to wait until summer or early fall. The important thing is the biological filter has now been charged with Microbe-Lift, the air is tumbling the bio-media (this is the WF filter I installed) and the UV filter is turned on. I'm going to let the system run for about 3 weeks with weekly inoculations of Microbe-Lift then test the water and get some fish! :):):)
Now I'm off to get some mulch.
