BYC Café

Yes, thanks for the hot coffee! Today is the last nice day for a week or so. We have snow and rain coming in, but they say not much accumulation. We could us the moisture so I will keep a positive outlook.
I split my rhubarb plant yesterday and gave half to one of my book club friends. Her family homesteaded this area and she wants to start some growing around her new house.
Other than that, pretty quiet. We watched a young ermine play around some rocks and I had to wait for a moose to get off the road.
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

We will be getting into the low 70s today. Rain also forecast but 'they' said yesterday was supposed to be sunny and it was overcast so I'm hoping today will be more sunny than rainy.

The string algae grows in the pond all winter, albeit at a slower rate. But with no competition from the aquatic plants...

I have physically removed what I can but it's coating everything. I've read I can put 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the pond at a rate of 1/2 c per 100 gallons and it will kill off the algae but not harm the fish or other aquatic life and the algae will either rise up in a mat or can be easily pulled and discarded. So I'm going to give it a try today. I'll have to clean and flush the settling tank 2 days in a row to make sure the dead algae doesn't clog the slots. May also pump 100 gallons out of the bog too. I'll have to see how this works for my setup.
