Good Morning,

Another rainy & cloudy day. I am having my tea now.

I was feeling gentle joy of doing my chicken tasks this morning, my feather kids are so pretty and adorable, this is all that I can cared for, anymore chickens I will not be able to do it, but still I go online every day looking for a rooster to add to my flock.

Then I saw those advertisement online that give away chickens due to moving, too busy, not laying eggs anymore, kids lost interest, downside and many more reasons....I want to take them all in, all of them... I remind myself how I can not care for more than what I already had.

I am really suffering from chicken math!

That depends on how large your flock is and how old they are. I've lost 3 in a year more than once. I expect something along those lines this year as the oldest birds continue to age out.

Right. I never had more than 9 adult chickens and my chickens live with me for as long as they are can. Until now no chicken died of old age. For me it was heart-braking to loose 3 hens within a few months.

Right. I never had more than 9 adult chickens and my chickens live with me for as long as they are can. Until now no chicken died of old age. For me it was heart-braking to loose 3 hens within a few months.

A few years back I had 7 hens and 1 rooster all Isa Brown= 8.
5 of my hens died in that same year within 6 months.
They started dying in February - August.
They were all about 2 years of age.

Whenever I think of them which is daily, my heartache and wish that I had the experience that I have now.

I hope and pray that my current flock only die of old age or live as long as your hen.

Peanut is a very lucky chicken, she is very special to live that good age of 21 years

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

The weeks are flying by. Busy at work and finally, busy at home and getting things done that have been sitting for years. I have people coming today that want some of my divided water lilies and maybe a lotus. I'll have to divide the lotus as soon as I get home and get it ready.

We're getting some free bales of straw today. Ok, not free. We are trading a dozen eggs and taking them out to dinner. We get dinner too, and good company.

Good Morning All,

It is Friday over here, a week is soon be over. I already had my tea, and coffee and croissant this morning...just about to be 8am.

The hen that laid no shell egg on Wednesday, did not lay any on Thursday and this morning laid a good shell egg.

I checked my egg register, she is dropping off on her egg laying gradually and having frequent episode of laying egg without shell. She is an Isa Brown hen, so I am thinking she is starting on her genetic reproductive issue path. I will give her 1 calcium C +D tablet for 2 straight weeks, then go from there.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

All this rain is causing real problems with my mowing. The moat still hasn't been dug out and it is overflowing across a very large swath of yard from the back yard all the way to the road. I got stuck in the mud yesterday and still have huge areas I cannot mow at all.

You can see the overflowing moat behind the uncut grass, the water in my yard at the bottom left corner of the image and if you look closely, my footprints in the mud between the tire tracks from pushing the tractor out. But at least I managed to get one more cut in before I haul the tractor and trailer off for maintenance work today.
