BYC Café

Here's my story. Monday afternoon I was headed to the club. Sky looked dark, and phone said 'major storm'. Came back and got on the computer. 'BAM' - house shook, burning electric smell, power brown out and surge. Tree down in hedgerow impacting power lines. Managed to convince the generator that we needed power, got the fire extinguisher ready - no major fire - lucky us. Things that got fried: our furnace, oven, dehumidifier, alarm clock, 10 light bulbs, 3 power surge strips that protected our television sets and the computer. Cable was out until just now. No one can explain why air conditioner continued running and did not get fried. Insurance company is making positive sounds about covering losses - we shall see, but we are okay, and our home still exists. We are leaving for Chincoteague on Sunday, and my body needs the respite - perhaps my mind needs it even more.
Wow, Sour, glad you two are good. Practically the same happened to my daughter and family's house a couple weeks ago, though not as extensive. A couple of electrical circuits fried and the Internet. Insurance denied them.

Good morning and Happy 4th!
Surprisingly, the cattle dog from the "Bear Incident" is still terrified of fireworks...LOL.
I think Bear PTSD is a real thing for him.
That guy is getting on in years for sure.
I survived the babysitting stint, barely.
Not due to the kids, but due to the stomach flu that made an appearance yesterday. TG the oldest went to daycare so I just had baby duty. I was very happy to get home, shower, and eat crackers before passing out cold for 11 hrs.
Sour, I am glad that the house is still standing and that the recovery will happen with little fuss.
DL, I hope this hatch goes well!
Enjoy the day, Cafe! We are off to BBQ with the littles again and their parents now that I am a starving stomach flu survivor.

I was out weeding around the pond landscaping just now when the dogs started to go crazy inside the house. I turned around to see if I could see the deer I assumed they were barking at. I didn't see anything so I kept weeding.

They started to escalate their barking. I turned around again and saw this beautiful guy pop out of the woods no more than 30 ft from me.

He ambled across my yard, around the back of my shed, popped back out into my yard, passed behind the solar panels into the neighbor's yard, went along the back side of my hedgerow and then popped back into my yard and crossed the ditch and road into the widow's yard. The neighbor estimates he weighs between 400 to 500 pounds.
It was quite the adrenaline rush. I have never been that close to a bear that size before.
