Here's my story. Monday afternoon I was headed to the club. Sky looked dark, and phone said 'major storm'. Came back and got on the computer. 'BAM' - house shook, burning electric smell, power brown out and surge. Tree down in hedgerow impacting power lines. Managed to convince the generator that we needed power, got the fire extinguisher ready - no major fire - lucky us. Things that got fried: our furnace, oven, dehumidifier, alarm clock, 10 light bulbs, 3 power surge strips that protected our television sets and the computer. Cable was out until just now. No one can explain why air conditioner continued running and did not get fried. Insurance company is making positive sounds about covering losses - we shall see, but we are okay, and our home still exists. We are leaving for Chincoteague on Sunday, and my body needs the respite - perhaps my mind needs it even more.
