BYC Café

Good morning and thanks for the coffee!
Hugs for tomorrow... and today, Penny! :hugs :hugs
I am off to take DH to one of his friend's house for the weekend. I think they are getting rain like we are so no fire danger to be worrying about with the holiday campers.
Hopefully the cat will not go psycho with coffee withdrawals!

I can't believe I'm doing this but it is definitely in the best interest of my exploding flock. I am rehoming 2 of my 5 year old hens to someone who posted here looking for companions for her now lone hen because her alpha hen passed. I am letting her have Mystic and MaeDae, hatch & half sisters. Their father was Captain. They are both Easter Eggers. Someone, every year, has been plucking out Mystic's beard. I have never seen who is doing it. But she is the only muffed/bearded bird with her beard plucked out. Hopefully it isn't MaeDae! I think Mystic would do better in a smaller flock but I don't want her going alone. I see her and Mae hanging out often so I think they are buddies.

Both of these girls are still laying. And they are laying blue eggs. I don't think I would easily confuse their eggs with the Ameraucanas eggs early on because of the size difference but the chance exists and I think my hatching egg customers would be quite understandably upset to get an EE egg in their purebred Ameraucana egg order. Another reason to choose these two to reduce the flock size.

Might be Mystic asked her friend to trim her beard, you never know. 😄
My old rooster used to have his face clean by 2 hens standing on each side, they cleaned his comb, his face while he closed his eyes. I thought it was a moment of bliss, pure joy and so contented.

Good Morning,

Had my coffee early this morning before I started on chicken tasks, need to wake up. Now the kettle is boiling for tea.

I took so many photos, but non seem calendar worthy, lacking that certain X factor, this nest box strata seems X factor almost...😄
Missed the bus on the caption contest.

My local independent grocery store got beautiful mandarin for $2 per kg. If buy in bulk a box of 10kg is $1 per kg. Mom and I shared a 10kg box because we love citrux fruit. The big supermarket has the same mandarin for $6 per kg. Each year they post a giant profit, one just reported a profit over $1 billion.

At my local supermarket I saw a lady stood there pondering at the tomatoes section ..$12 per kg, then she took 2. I could not help myself, but told her that the independent fruits & Vegs just across the highway is $3 per kg. She must be new to this area because she did not know that there is an independent store near by.

Have a wonderful day all
