@SkyAJK, one of my nearly 6 year old hens was going downhill, and not long for this life. I really wished I knew how to do a cervical dislocation (often abbreviated CD here, and it means quickly breaking the bird's neck). I wasn't ready to learn how on my old girl, so I just made her as comfortable as I could. I didn't bring her inside, as she was a "hands off" chicken, and I knew she'd prefer to be with her flock. The flock spent her last two days clustered around her. She knew she was with her friends.

Anyway, my point is, there are several threads on how to do cervical dislocation, if you want to read about it.

I'm sorry for your hen. Hugs for you. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs
Thank you Sally for sharing and information.❤️ I was going to do the deed yesterday, but she had breakfast and took a dirt bath so I did not. I have read on this CD many times over, position and action as if I was doing it, my twist is not strong, Mint is a big hen. I had consider the off with the head removal with 1 act, it seems fast enough 30 second consciousness. I imagined doing all that and I could not bring myself to do it. To the VET.....

Mint has lash egg infection, and she poops yellow liquid, I want to put her back with her flock, but I worried that they catch the E.Coli from her poops and ...grrr....

Mint flat her wings, eat and drink this morning, ...whenever I decided this is the day, she suddenly more active, alert,..her big hard rock tummy is softer this morning, but she refuses the mealworms..

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

I didn't bother thawing the sliders open and just took Bella out through the mudroom. She blew by the stairs to the mudroom twice when I kept calling her before she finally remembered she'd come out that way.

Such creatures of habit they are. When Mom calls me at the house, I run to the sliders!

2°F here this morning. They had forecast negative temps, so I'm grateful it's ... warmer... than they thought it would be. Temps could still fall a degree or two.

On last night's weather segment of the news, they mentioned several times that how low it would go was dependent on how much the cloud cover dissipated. Some might say they were hedging their bets. Not I. I like how they are trying to explain and teach the public about how the weather in our area works.

Good morning and thanks for the hot coffee! 20's here, sunshine. It should be a pretty nice day. DS$ wrestles tonight and we will watch him on the computer. Hopefully, the weather gods will smile on us for next weekend and we can watch the match in person!
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

Good Morning,
2nd coffee is done and waiting for it to cool down, hot and humid over here. I broke out a sweat moving back and forth between 3 chicken houses and the dogs.

I have relaxing Jazz music on for my sick hen Mint, she is quiet today...I think she likes slow/relax Jazz.

Dare not ask what is up with the world, only what is up with my chicken world..molting Wyandottee - Pretty. She really is beautiful and everywhere she goes feather falling all over, soon she will look like a ready to roast chicken.🤣

I put drops of oregano oil near her vent because she had running poops on her feather so to avoid flies that what she got and the rest of the flock avoid her like a plague.🤣

Keep warm, stay safe and I try not to complaint about the hot weather over here.

It was -2 this morning.

When I went out to clean the boards it was bright, sunny 10 and many hens were in the maternity ward. When I went out to the run to toss scratch, several hens ran out from the dust bathing annex. That is when I remembered the greenhouse effect that section of my setup has.

With the polycarbonate roof and the reinforced poly sheeting wind block, on a sunny day, it traps heat back there. They are all beating the cold by loitering in those spaces. I think I will make another wind block for the triangular section of the maternity ward run that is open to help it stay even warmer. It is honestly a relief to remember that they have that space and are using it. As long as there is bright sun, it will warm up nicely for them.
