Do you really not pronounce the w in the word "dwarf"?

In dwarf the “war” is said as “or”

Dorf, but spelled dwarf, Handorf is said exactly how it’s spelled, so I said it right.

I feel like that explanation is way too complicated

I double checked the dictionary and it's telling me the w is not silent.

It's probably one of those things that we figure out in our head when we are a kid and our mind is blown when we get older and learn the right way.
For the longest time I called a "bouquet" a "banquet". I still have to catch myself when the kids bring me a bunch of flowers I want to call it a banquet.
