Sorry Chix! Hope the tea above makes it better.

As far as your sick chickies go, are you going organic? If so, I can give you a number of links but I have to track them down, but the simplest right now, is Apple Cider Vinegar in their water, and if you are in cold, you can give it to them in warm water too. Which reminds me, I need to get some more vinegar to keep up my hens' immune systems. don't worry about getting organic or not (I cheat) but if you want organic, Bragg's is the best brand. I will hunt up some more links if you want me to...

Oh yeah, I am stalling on my chores...*really* really don't want to go outside again.

Scoot, wonderful bling! We missed it, and that sure helps to get me in the Christmasy mood.

Karan, me and several others like to play the bling game, but we can't ever match yours!

try vetRX.. it's like vaporub for animals. It's like a lil bottle for $10, just rub some under the wing, up against the chest.
Heck if ya dun have any of that, get some vaporub and rub on.

Warm water freezes faster than cool water. At least that's what Jim says when I play the I'm such a nice mom card.
You might, if they are sick, get some of the penecillian for animals, and give them shots in the breast meat.
We've had a Barred Rock Roo given to us. He was sicker then a dog, barely breathing he was wheezing so badly. We gave him a round of penecillian (7 days.. 1 shot a day) With the vetRX combo.
He is the healthiest bird you can find now.

Thanks for the advice. I knew you girls would know what to do. How much apple cider vinegar in the water? I'm not organic.

Thanks for the tea rocket!!!

I'll def do the vinegar.
I'm going to keep and eye on them for a while before I treat them with anything but I think I may pick some up in town so I have it. Don't they have an oral antibiotic? I had to give my dying cat IV treatments and she died and I said I just can't do that anymore.

Plus they don't even have any breast meat. They are only 7 weeks.

I'd be afraid to inject them wrong.

Skand: I have some stuff that is just like vicks. Its in a green bottle. I will try that.

How big is your waterer? I'd do maybe 3 tablespoons per quart. Don't want to overdo the taste, then they wouldn't drink as much as needed.
You can get some penecillian and draw it out and then squirt down thier mouths.
Get the measurement amount needed for the size birds.
Dont forget tissues for thier noses.

They aren't that bad.

Do chickens get colds often? I've never had to deal with it before. I think my new chickies may have brought this in. I knew better they were just so cute.

we
do 2 tablespoons per gallon or so...we have a 7 gallon waterer.

It worked really really well. And they still drank it. Oh yeah and Garlic. Here's a good post on BYC about it too. You only need about a clove or two of garlic in that big of a waterer. Less garlic if smaller waterer.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=104203 They talk about it for worming, but it works for other things as well, since all of those things are natural antibiotics.

I am Soo glad that your DH got to come home. I know it will be some work at first to get things set the way the hospital suggested but it will become routine in no time just wait and see.

Everyone stay and get healthy! We need everyone better for tomorrow's party and so we can have a holiday shindig too!

Off to work on some more research for SE now.
and maybe play with my peeping crazy balls of fluff too...Ahhh they are dust bathing! It's my favorite! They are just soooo funny!

You folks are making me nervous, with all these germs going around. Think I'll keep my hand sanitizer next to the keyboard. And when I get home, I'll find the "Airborne" stuff & start taking that too.
Oh, and those with sick chicks, maybe you should put a pump bottle of sanitizer in the pen for the ones who are not sick. Don't want to be spreading any more germs than necessary!
