Hi Smitty, I just had to let you know that I adore your sunflower granny. it is the cutest I have seen. I don't suppose that you could let me in on the pattern could you? I have been all over the net and I can not find one as cute as that , I am wanting to make my mom an afghan for christmas and she is crazy for sunflowers. She is 77 and all she wants for christmas is an afghan as she is in the process of moving to Michigan. If any one else has a really cute sunflower pateern like that , not alot of holes if yu could help me out I would soo appreciate it as this is for my mom and she is not real well and she is moving with my brother and sis in law far away from me . If you could help me out with a pattern I would be so grateful to you Thanks. Trudy

Thanks Trudy! I love sunflowers to. You should see the big ones that are growing in my garden right now. They are monsterous!!!!! Is that a word?? LOL!!!!

I think that is so sweet to make your mom an afghan. OOOh, moving to Michigan, she'll need it. BRRRR!!!!! I love gifts like that. I think they are very special.

I would love to share the pattern. Just PM me your address and I'll send you a copy. The pattern makes a 4" square, but I just added a few more rounds on it to make it 6".

trudy if you go to www.bevscountrycottage.com and type in the sreach box 6" granny squares and then look-up the sunburst square by priscilla hewitt that pattern makes a nice sunflower pattern jsut use the sunflower colors thats what I did for a lapghan for a freind of mine.

Risurocket I tryed to pm you but your box is full so I will try again tomorrow.

Ronniegal1 you will have plenty of time. Nov 1st is a long time away. And we will help you if you need us too. I have plenty of time to make more squares to add to the pile I have already made! LOL!.

I finially stoped when my patterns arrived only to start making them again since I have to wait until wednesday before I can get the right colors of yarn for my afghans and I can usally get about 7 to 8 squares made a day, and thats with housework and if the weathers too hot. otherwise I usally only to about 4 to 5 a day if I go outside. But thats with the basic basic pattern. which is what I use most of the time. I am trying to make enough to make a queen size afghan to go on my bed for this winter. well ladies I have to go give the kido some medicine and then lay down with her and rub her back until she falls asleep so I will talk to ya'll in the morning, Blessing to all of you and I hope everyone has a peaceful evening. but I've been back here 17 years and my folks have been here for over 35 years. I will check the county road map and Glenwood town map when I get to the office tomarro, I work at the Sheriff's Office so I have alot of maps there. That would be great if she does live here I would like to check those sumatras they look so colorful.

eastTNchick sorry to hear your DH has been going through this. My Dad has had 2 back surgeries in the past 2 years and is still in a lot of pain he is going to get an implant this time to see if this will help alieve some of his pain. I will pray for both your DH and my Dad to get good results.

I have also seen that sunflower pattern and several other great ones in the 99 Granny Square Patterns book..paperback, cheap. I got it off ebay for about 3 bucks and media mail shipping in excellent condition. Two variations on the plain ole granny I have been trying that looks great are these.....you can do both or either and it helps the look of your square so much..1. on the outside row, the last one you are doing...in the corners do 6 DC..no chaining in between anything, just the 6 and move on to the next group like normal...makes the corner soooo pretty!!...2. For the center or start..chain 4 (F hook) and do 15 DC in that ring (yes, it's tight but it is easy to do)..then chain 5 and make a second DC beside that beginning chain of the second row (you know, the starter chain piece for the next row) so that you have basically 2DC with some space between as your first part of row 2, then skip one space and do do 2 DC (no chaining or spacing), skip a space and do 2 DC but add 2 chains in between, skip a space and do 2 DC no chains in between, skip a space and do 2 DC w/ 2 Chains between, all around so you end up with a square, 4 corners are dc w/ s chains between and the next ones are just DC, a great looking center!! Then just chain 3 and do the rest like a traditional granny except the outside row with the 6 in the corners instead of the 3DC chain2 3DC..give it a try, easy and changes the entire look of your square!! That's with the acrylic, worsted weight, red heart regular ole yarn and the sugar n cream cotton, both look great! I'll try to take some picture tonight if I get a chance. Have a great day ya'll, happy hookin!!

Maw, I just went through checking the American Sumatra Chicken Association site and there is a glenwoodlady named Dee But I believe she lives in Glenwood Iowa. That is still only a couple of stones throws from me. I might look her up sometime. Thanks.

I found my yarn in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. In Edinburgh there's a place called k1 Yarn, or something like that, but I didn't get to that place. You can google k1 Yarn and it should give you an address. The best yarn has to be 100% wool, though or Orkney Angora (rabbit) - be careful, they have just plain old yarn like here too. It also costs about 12.00 a skein, or hank if you get the good stuff.

I have found that wool is a lot easier to work with than anything else I have tried so far, and the yarn from the seaweed eating sheep, while it still smells like sheep, is gorgeous stuff. My own skill level (or lack thereof) is slowing me down a lot, though anyway. Good Luck!

Thanks risurocket!
I don't know if she'll be willing to get me any or not, but at least I now know how much $ to offer for what I want. I'd love to make a nice wool shawl for myself

(greedy of me I know)

I have a scruffy shawl I made early in my crocheting 'career' that I dearly love but it is getting worn out and my DD keeps trying to steal it from me. A new one would be soooo nice.

I have trade eggs hatching today. Going home for lunch to see how they're doing. I had 2 pips and partial zip when I left the house this morning. Quite a surprise since I was expecting them late tonight or tomorrow and the temps were much cooler in the bator this time (or so I thought).
