22 year old QH
17 year old DWB
14 year old welsh/morab
25 year old ex-reiner QH

my we have a lot of old horses!!

You do too horsecrazy! LOL Just more mouths to feed really. I have a thing for older horses as well. I just love how they can teach my kiddos how to ride. I also enjoy hopping on an older horse and not having to constantly correct or train them! LOL Managed right a horse can easily last many years past 20. Shoot my 3 yr old filly's Daddy was put down at 32 and didn't look his age until the last year of his life.

I had a thread on my oldest daughter making the QH news. I put her picture up with her competing on her 24 yr old horse....

Hard not to be a proud Mama! LOL

I've got a 5 year old Quarter Horse. He's quite frisky. I still love him! He's about 16.1hh. His name is "Cat." A horse named cat. Go figure.

I've had horses all of my life. I've ridden English (jumping and dressage), but mostly I have done tons of western riding and training. We love to trail ride, especially in the high country, and do some ranch work once in a while. One of my daughters and my husband trail ride occasionally, the other daughter competes in western ranch horse events, so she rides all the time. I keep telling myself that someday I will have the time and money to learn to cut (I can play at it now, but I'd like to learn the proper way!!)

We currently have 7 horses:

12 yr old QH (Shasta) - extremely cowy and loves to team pen/sort cows, incredible mountain goat.
11 yr old pinto (Houdini) - awesome trail horse and all-around clown
14 yr old TB (Charlie) off the track retrained for ranch events (roping, goat-tying, etc.)
10 yr old QH (Stetson)-ranch trained
10 yr old APHA (Dandy)-reining trained, great trail and arena horse
9 yr old APHA (Cami) - pleasure bred, boss mare
9 yr old QH (Al) - cutting trained, awesome mountain horse.

Skeeter, I bet you would be hooked once you started cutting! I have and will again, but right now am just trying to hold things together. You know how it goes when you have too much on your plate. LOL I will put my money into my kid's training and showing right now. Once they are older then it will be Mom's time. For now I help out and train for extra and just haul - not the usual bus like most soccer moms!

Thats pretty much my job, and I love it! I wouldn't have it any other way! I break 'em for a livin, and I also do all my ranch work on 'em and ride to town on 'em.

I had arabians all my life. I did 3-day eventing and competitive trail.
I just like to trail ride now. I have a Norwegian Fjord mare, she's really, really cool. I also have two minis that I drive. I'm also teaching a team of nubian goats to drive.

Gosh is there something un-chic about riding Western in riding tights with an English helmet and snaffle bit! I just couldn't make jeans work for me when I switched to Western after a riding accident. I used to trailride in an English saddle!

Horses are my four-legged psychiatrist and probably cheaper! I have a 19 y o quarter horse gelding. I ride with ladies all in their 50s (I'm 61). We trailride all over the ranch we board our horses at....

Chickens and horses are my passion -- what a combo...along with my brand new grandson!

Hey, Barb!! I have a horsey friend who lives in Castroville!!! Brianna, do you know her? She drives a carriage, like I do!
