Walbarbsa, around here you might get strung up from the tallest tree if you got caught wearing tights and riding in a western saddle.

This country is full of cattle ranchers and they know how to use their ropes!!!

Ugly, I envy you!!! All my life I wanted to make my living as a horse trainer/rancher, but I was brought up (at least by my mom) that the only way to be successful is to spend years in college (with straight A's, of course) followed by a fancy career in some big company! Tried it, but definitely not the life for me. I would gladly spend my life on the back of a horse if I could!!!

Country, that's pretty much what I do right now, too! I try to ride as much as I can, but most of my personal time is spent moving horses or show steers, or, well, you know! My youngest and most horse-active daughter is just starting to haul her own animals, but I still want to be at her events as much as possible. Me-time is still a ways off!!!

I rode a lot when I was a teenager, but my parents couldn't afford lessons. I took lessons with my own money in college after I got a job. But then I didn't ride for over 20 years except an occasional guided trail ride. My husband says our daughter is practically my clone, so of course she loves horses. She started taking riding lessons a couple of years ago. This year she helped talk my husband into getting a couple of horses of our own.

Here is my daughter with her mare Luna. This was while we still had her boarded before our fence was up. Luna is a pretty much bombproof old girl.

And this is my mare Lacy. She is showing me how badly my riding skills have diminished over the last 20+ years. And how much more it hurts to hit the ground when you're older. She is *not* bombproof!

I took a 17 year break from riding. The first couple of weeks were hard on my thighs, but it's gotten a lot better. I'm glad I bothered to stay in shape. Things could've gone much worse. I've been learning the Wanless method. She advocates a tight, I mean TIGHT, thigh and knee, which is totally opposite from my previous experience. It's been working really well and my instructor has me exercising her Welsh Mountain pony. He had some surgery a couple of years ago and never got back in shape. He's a bumpy little fellow. It really is amazing how much my body remembers. Every time I ride I feel like something in my brain has been uncovered. Yesterday I overheard my instructor talking to another student about me riding her daughter's big TB/Trekhaner cross. I'm pretty jazzed. I hope my skills don't plateau before I get a chance at that beauty. hollyclyf, they're gorgeous. I love your paint mare.

congrats to everyone on gettng back to riding!

My personal favorite type of riding is english and show jumping, and I have also tried cross country, although she is very old (twenty five years old) and she still jumps a metre!!!

As soon as I have figured a way to post pictures with the messages, then you can meet her.

Another two things: she is white (AND SHE LOVES TO ROLL) and she is fat.

Thanks kinnip.

I really need to take some lessons myself and I plan to as soon as the finances have recovered from all that we spent this past year. In addition to the horses, we also had two very sick dogs and an unexpected major home repair. Otherwise I risk sending my poor DH to the mental hospital if I spend any more money right now.

Depends on if they are mad at him or not, it could be Darling Husband if she is not mad at him or Darn Husband if she is mad at him.

Here are some other short hands,

FIL = Father In Law
MIL - Mother In Law
DS - Darling Son
DSS - Darling Step Son
DD - Darling Daughter
DSD - Darling Step Daughter
BIL - Brother In Law
SIL - Sister In Law

Hope this helps. Took me a while to figure out some of the codes myself.

By the way, I grew up loving horses. I used to ride Arabians, Appies, the occassional Thoroughbred, Morgans, Quaterhorses.

Most of the horses I rode were mares, although I did ride a stallion or gelding every so often. I haven't ridden in years though and I miss being around the horses. I used to have an Arabian mare that looked alot like Flicka, from the original movie not the current one out. She was a one person horse, although she would allow children to ride her, but no adults. She was a great all around horse and not afraid to try anything I asked her to do.

I lost her during a foaling that went horribly wrong, lost her baby too. I hope to one day soon be able to move to the country and get another horse or two or three.
