BYC KNITTING CLUB

Well, I can't belive I'm stumbling on this thread only today! I guess that's what happens when you get so busy you can't check your favorite message boards.

Please count me in!

I love to knit and try to find time to do so every day. I figure that's the main benefit of commuting on the train/bus/el: I get to knit! Usually I'm working on socks during my commute and as my general "in my purse" project. I've even pulled out my sock-in-progress to work a few rows while standing in line at the grocery store!

Most of my projects are posted on my projects page in Ravelry. I'm know as windycitygal over there.

I finished a pair of socks just last weekend, but still need to weave in the ends and take a photo. I'll try to do that tonight and tomorrow so I can post a photo.

I've already cast on another pair of socks (of course!) which are being work in the most delicious alpaca sock yarn I picked up in Tawas, Michigan a few weekends ago: Berocco Ultra Alpaca Sock. It was like $10 for a 400+ yd skein. Unbelievable price, and the fabric is scrumptious.

Other things I've got going on:

* a Baby Surprise Jacket which is lacking only some buttons or closures of some kind. I hate sewing buttons on knitted fabric, so I'm thinking of making some crocheted tie closures by picking up stitches on the front and then crocheting onwards from there. My crochet is really slow and not as good as my knitting, so this will take me some time.

* a Shalom cardigan for myself. I'm adding sleeves and making other mods. Frankly, I may just frog this as I'm not sure that I'm happy with how it's turning out. I'm really tempted to just start the February Lady cardigan instead with some awesome Briar Rose yarn I got at the Midwest Folk Art & Fiber fest this past August.

I'm looking for a good hat pattern: basic, masculine, maybe a bit of cabling or other stitching embellishment.

Suggestions? I'm a bit overwhelmed w/ the google search results.

Jenn, I'd be willing to share my pattern with you. I came up with this year because I too was overwhelmed and underwhelmed with what i found existing. It's a simple striped cap. I can take a picture later after I get home from work (after 7pm).

Here's the pair of socks I finished this past week.

These are from a free online pattern, Spring Forward, on knitty.com.

This is the second pair I've made. This pair is for my sister, but I kept the first pair for myself.

I used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn on both pairs. I love this yarn and can get it for a discount during the annual Windy City Knitting Guild tour and mill end sale that Lorna's Laces holds every spring.

I don't have the concentration requirements for socks

I just finished some little slipper/clogs for my 5 year old - they're in the washer being felted. I'll post pic's when they're done.

I really like those slippers! You are all doing such wonderful work. I haven't posted about everything, but I've enjoyed seeing hearing about all your projects.

Wildsky, those slippers are awesome. Where did you get the pattern? I would love to give that a try after I finish my Christmas knitting and crafting.
