BYC KNITTING CLUB

So true, I once knit a sweater for my husband in 100 percent alpaca and he only wore it during extremely cold days because itvwas so warm. And yes, it doesn't hold it's shape as well as wool so you have to choose yourpatterns carefully...no ribbing. I will usually knit guernsey patterns with alpaca.

I have some 100% alpaca yarn I was thinking of knitting a simple vest with. Have been wondering how much alpaca yarn would curl in stocking knit v.s. how dense/warm it would be in garter stitch. Does anyone have thoughts or ideas for either type of stitching? Thank-you!

How do you know when to stop knitting a hat? I heard that you stop when it is 6-7 inches? Is that measuring from end-end or end-brim? I have a hat that I knitted and it is almost 8 inches from end-end. Please help.

WOW! Those are precious. Absolutely ADORABLE.
I bet that if you posted that pattern on Ravelry it would be very popular, especially this time of year.

I don't think it would curl more than any other yarns. Probably even less than a merino / wool would. Alpaca tends to have a lot of drape, and not hold shape in structured elements as well as other yarns. So, it would probably be great if you don't want a lot of curl in stockinette.
If you do a border in garter stitch and the body of the vest in stockinette it would probably hold up well & look very pretty.

Are you a member of Ravelry? There are a lot of great patterns there & you can look at what other folks have used yarn wise, which is enormously helpful. Hope I helped, and if I am wrong, I am sure someone will chime in.

oh no... a forum that includes chickens.... AND KNITTING? I'm doomed. I'm never leaving the computer ever again.

well, except maybe to knit and watch the ladies run around the yard.

Welcome to the club.
I'm making warm snacks for the ducks on a snowy morning and then getting back to this little skirt I am making... if I can ever get off of BYC.
