We used to do that when I was a teen & my family lived in FL. Mom was from here; Dad from Kansas. My maternal grandfather filed a gold claim within walking distance of where I live now. I was never into the gold thing & spent most of the panning time sitting on a big rock in the middle of the creek reading books. The non-party-poopers in the family found a little gold dust; so did I (because they basically forced me), but I do cherish the memories.
