BYC members in Massachusetts?

Hi, I'm new to owning chickens and this site. I'm hoping this is how I can join the Massachusetts thread. Lol. We have just 2 girls and a small coop, and I'm debating on adding 1 or 2 more for warmth in winter. I plan on insulating it a little and closing in the small attached run for extra protection. We also plan on building a larger run with a roof over part of the run for the winter. The girls free range most of the time, so I'm not super concerned of over crowding, I'm just not sure adding 2 is the best idea. Any thoughts?

A pic of your current coop would be better to help you.
Where are you in MA? In a city, rural ?

I have 4, better warmth I think
and WELCOME :frow

Sure, I'm in central mass. The coop is a summer hawk, I'll post a pic too. I need to clean it as you can see, but I'm testing it to get an idea for how often I'll need to this winter.

I would say that it too small for Winter time. It looks like the ones they sell cheap. I had gotten one but sent it back before I even opened up the box.

I built a small one fast because mine came kinda of like a Rescue.
I will be making a coop out of a Rubbermaid 7x7 shed :)

I am in Bedford, not sure how far you are but if I can help with anything let me know.
I think I will be going to Tractor Supply later today in Leominster to look around for ideas :) And of course then hit Walmart next door ;)

Yeah, it was a little bit of an impulse purchase, then we got carried away with the idea of chickens and went with it. Ha ha. I wasn't the one who wanted them, but I am the one who is ibsessed now. Lol.

Thanks for the offer! When we build the bigger run, I might see if I can close more in. The girls are happy free ranging and that's good for now.

Mine too I am not too worried yet but want them to be happy come Winter if I need to keep them inside for most of it.

This white thing in the backround is their coop for now. It was suppose to be up on the cinder blocks but they couldn't figure out how to get down the hole in the floor :hmm SO I plugged up the hole and the opening is on the side. It's about 4'x4.5' and 3' tall which is too small for the 4 of them. The kid house is just a sand/dirt spot for them (free). As you can see I put in an umbrella and blue tarp to cover for rain but they just wanted to stay IN the rain :he There is also a tan sun shade over it as well for, well shade.
It's hard not to get excited and over do it. I did that too

My girls love my garden bed full of tomatoes. It's shady, cool and sometimes they find some food in It. Lol they also like to stick to the edges of the yard where there are trees and some brush to hang out in. Thanks for the input! I feel like one more might be a good idea after I get all the adjustments made, but I don't want them cramped for winter. I'll probably hold off for now.
