tldr: 5 older chickens looking for a new home

Hello everyone! Someone at my Boston workplace sent out an email looking to rehome 5 older hens as he would soon be moving to Germany. This is what he had to say about them:

"Unfortunately, I don't have much information about their history. We adopted 10 hens from our neighbour who was moving to Australia last May. The 5 who remain survived 2 incidents with a raccoon. The previous owner said they are between 2 and 7 years old, but wasn't sure specifically how old they were.

As for breeds, there is one large white chicken, two buff chickens, one red chicken and one polish chicken. One of the buff chickens has a lame leg, not sure she's laying any more, but she in her own way she keeps up with the rest. We haven't had any noticeable illnesses, although the polish one has decided that our coop isn't as fun as it used to be. She will, when given the opportunity, sleep in the tree above the coop. My wife has pictures I'd be happy to pass along if there's any interest."

I know it's not a lot of information and they are older hens, but I thought I would pass it along in case anyone in the Boston area would be interested. Just to be clear these birds are pet birds looking for a good home, not birds to be eaten. Thanks for reading!

Hi drellbug being down to 2 hens due to a coyote attack l may be interested in your hens. Are they still laying are where may I see them. I am in the metro west area

Anyone know where the best place to buy cheap hamburger meat is? I want to make satin balls for the dog and need 10 pounds, which will obviously add up to a lot of money. Although 10 pounds is also kind of a lot and I think the recipe is probably designed for breeders or people with multiple dogs so I might cut the recipe in half or less but still, I want to find the cheapest and not pay a crazy amount.

Thanks

I woudl say ANY cheap grocery store. Market basket ? Or if there is another place that has cheap groceries. There are not many around me.

BUT... You could also keep an eye out at the meat counter for "Manager Specials"
I know MB does this when it is suppose to be sold by the next day.
You could also go through the meat and pick out ones that will expire the next day and ask if they would lower the price ??

I used to go to Everett to a chicken processing place when I was feeding RAW yo my Danes. I had good luck with the Satin balls when my Rescue Dane came to me at 90# (and she was 32" at the shoulder ! ) :hit

Edit to add .. Big Y ?? I don't shop there but I think it is cheaper grocery ?
