Hi all, my name is Skye, I am the proud owner of a mixed flock of 6 backyard fairly free range hens. 2 Cuckoo Morans, 2 Light Sussex, and 2 Buff Orpingtons. They are in-between 23 and 28 weeks old. Only my Morans are laying, but all the others are displaying signs it will soon happen for them as well. This is my second flock, so I am not a total newbie. But I have noticed that this group of gals is complete different than my last group of girls, total different personalities and behaviors. I am very happy with my choice of hens, although I have read that the Buff Orpies are super sweet and tend to get picked on, one of mine, named Gertie, is the smallest in the flock and most certainly the queen bee and is a serious butt head, constantly challenging me and putting the others in their places! She doesn't bother me, just surprises me that she is so bold. My other Orpy is bold as well.
I have a wayward husband and 3 mischievous teens.... I also have 2 cats, 3 goofy dogs, 4 parrots and NO partridge or pear-tree. It is busy household for sure! I am a photographer in my spare time. I do have a couple of questions and concerns, but will leave those for a different forum.
Thank you for letting me in the BYC club

:welcome

It sounds like you have a very busy house, lol. Glad you made time to join us, there are a lot of friendly & knowledgeable people here ready to help you with whatever you need.

Make yourself at home here and be sure to share some photos of your chickens!

G’Day from down under Skye :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;) I see you are a photographer so we will expect a high standard! Just kidding! We all know how much chickens like to stand still and have their picture taken .... not! :p
