I know. In the past I have seen many quarterly announcements without the educator award, so this was not unusual.

What I'd love to see is some rotations in who's in charge of the final picks.

I found it helpful when I someone I think deserves an award to nominate them and include a note about why I think they deserve that award. I also include links to posts. So maybe try that this time around.

Educator is picked by staff under strict requirements. There is not guarantee that anyone will be awarded educator--There are not that many with that Award. There are not many with all of the badges either

The staff discusses and agrees on all awardees. Some quarters no one is nominated for a particular award and sometimes there are reasons someone won’t get it that quarter. That is why we do not allow nominations to be made public. It causes bad feelings if staff thinks an award for so and so should wait, but it’s been posted that so and so was nominated and they didn’t get it.

Also, if we find someone is actively and publicly seeking a nomination for themselves or someone else, that nominated member is DQ-ed for that quarter. Same with those who nominate each other as a “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” type of thing. All parties in that case will be DQ-ed for that quarter. That type of thing isn’t hard to spot, believe it or not.

Do please put a note with a link to an example of why you nominated a member. We do look at that. Thank you for mentioning that, @casportpony, it does help a lot.

As for educators....this accolade represents the best of the best. We are very choosy who we give this award to. There are strict guidelines and standards we expect our educators to uphold. Often, we try to mentor and guide our educators, because we do want them to be successful in their role. Only a unanimous agreement from staff for a nominee will award an educator medal. Often if someone is nominated who isn’t quite ready, we will agree to watch that member’s style and adherence to the standards and if they are nominated again, we will discuss again.

Nomination & Award Process:

1. Use this Nomination Submission Form to make your nomination, and be sure to include a brief comment on why you are nominating the individual. Nominations with no comment and only a name cannot be accepted. Please be sure you are spelling the name correctly.
2. Members may place in nomination a maximum of four (4) members per month; however, you may nominate only one (1) member per award category per month.
3. Nominations are automatically forwarded to the BYC Awards Committee. They will validate and tabulate all nominations.
4. Member must be active and in good standing in the BYC community to receive and/or retain awards.
5. Members may not nominate themselves for any award; all self-nominations will be voided. Members may not ask for nominations. Those doing so will have their nominations voided.
6. Qualified Awardees will be announced quarterly and medals given.
7. The Awards Committee, at its discretion and by majority vote, may elect to reclassify a nomination to a more appropriate award classification.
8. All nominations shall remain confidential and known only to the Awards Committee and BYC Staff.
9. The Members of the Awards Committee shall remain confidential and known only to BYC Staff.

Glad I spotted this thread - been wondering how they are given / chosen! Perhaps there should be a link to this thread in the main link to awards? I wish I'd taken note now as there have been a couple of people I thought deserved a badge - I'll try to remember before Friday!
