BYC seems to be having issues!

The site is moving rather slow for me right now -- it took about 15 seconds just to load the reply page. And the past couple of times I've tried going to the bottom of the Index to go to My Posts it stops at the end of the Recent Posts and doesn't go down any further.

I have some issues too.

Many times I will click on a thread and it just won't load. Others times when I click to go forward with another page number it doesn't load. At the same time if I give up and click on the home page it will usually go straight there when it wouldn't go elsewhere.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm... there are lots of variables at play that could cause these kinds of problems... many on our side, but also hundreds of others between our server and your eyeballs.

We're working on some server upgrades that will hopefully help with the stuff on our side.

..... have been having all kinds of irritation issues for weeks ....... just figured that it was our company network glitching along because I'm spending WAY too much time on this site instead of our accounts payable site........ LOL
Can't imagine how I'd fill my days without BYC

Hint from a former Computer Tech Support Specialist. (This is a call that I used to get all the time. Folks want to blame everything on their new computer.)

If you're using Windows and a site is loading slowly for you do the following:

Click START
Click RUN
Type "cmd" (without the quotation marks)
Press <Enter>
An ugly black screen will appear. (This is a DOS screen. In the early days this was all we had.)
Type "tracert www.backyardchickens.com" (no quotes or underline)
Press <Enter>
You should now have a screen that looks something like this:
Tracert-1.jpg

What you're looking at is the step-by-step route that you are using to communicate with the BYC server. The time that each step takes is displayed in milliseconds (1/1000th's of a second).
If any of the numbers are considerably longer than the rest or the connection reports "Request timed out" that is where the delay is occurring. In the example shown here if the last step, "ns1.yourusahost.com [207.58.128.120]" was extremely long or timed out than the problem is with the BYC host server.

If you're using something other than Windows or have other problems making this work for you please feel free to PM me. I'll be happy to try and help. If you're trying this from work the company firewall may block you. I will not teach you how to bypass the firewall!
