Need your opinions: I am sewing girls clothes to sell on the internet, Etsy. Some of the seams I am serging because I like the finished look. But I am torn as to whether to serge the tiers of ruffles on the tops. I want the clothing to look as nice as it can but I don't want to doing things that will make the price have to be too high.... Anyone got two cents for me? Tks Kathy
 
When I bought my serger the salesman showed me a setting that would both serge and ruffle at the same time. That was years ago and I don't make ruffles so I don't remember what he showed me, but I bet your serger would do the same thing, that could replace one step w/ a different step and keep it looking professional.
 
Mine doesn't do a very good job but mine is an old serger. If yours is new, mine is 20 years old, then it might work. Your instruction book should tell you how but I bet you could find something on line. Lot's of luck!
 
My serger is well over 20's yo. It is a JCPenny and the only thing it doesn't do that the new ones do is thread itself. It is a great machine.
So I went ahead and sewed my seams then went back and serged the edges. It looks great and that is how they all will be done..... Pictures to come of my first product.
 
chickikat, where in eastern KS are you? My hubby is from Paola and his son lives in Emporia and two daughters in the Wichita area. My serger is a Kenmore and it's never failed me. I had it professionally cleaned last year for the first time.

I did some Christmas quilts last year Here is the link. I am doing a tropical flower and sea turtles one now and in planning phase. I got all the material for it (lots of batiks and bright colors) and working up some patterns and a layout.

I know where you are now. Just might see you next year when we go back. My husband goes to OK for his college reunion every other year. OK Wesleyan was a part of the college he went to for his teaching degree but his college closed back in the 70's. He has two sisters both in their 90's and one will be 100 next August. I always look forward to the trip as I like Bartlesville, OK and I love eastern KS
