Ooohh, oooh, I'm making a rag quilt for a gift too! Love yours sara!

I've made a few myself. Clipping is definitely hard work. I did invest in a pair of Fiskars that were specifically meant for the clipping. Best $$$ I've spent on a pair of scissors. I'll have to start posting a few photos too! It's so fun to see what others are doing! We are all so crafty!

May I join the group to, please.

My mother taught me how to sew when I was a kid recovering from several surgeries. I crochet, sew, and quilt also. I have several UFO's that I am working on, but they have taken a back seat to some of the home repairs and building projects I have going on.

As to fabric stashes, I have several of those clear plastic 3-4 drawer storage units that I have the fabric stored in. I have a set of 4 placemats that I have to put the binding on, a baby quilt I am making for my twin brothers new granddaughter, several Christmas stockings( that I made the template for myself out of thin plywood), and cross stitch projects to finish. So I know where you ladies are coming from.

I also have some patterns for doll clothes somewhere in there, lol.
I have several books on quilting with some really great patterns in them, including one from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.

I usually get my Fabrics at WalMarts, and they have a Quilt of the Month pattern that I try to get. I know some of the stores are no longer carrying fabrics, but when I worked for them, I was one of the few men in the store that knew how to cut fabric.

Another point about the rag quilts, I think you need to wash them a few times to get the ragging effect on the blocks. Most quilters recommend that you do this (and dry) at a laundromat rather than at home because a lot of lint and threads fill up your filters.

I have made and taught the Pioneer Braid and it is a lovely effect for borders and in strips in a strippy quilt. Here is a link:

Welcom FrChuckW, always glad to see a guy jump on our craft projects. Make sure you all join the quilt block swap that Miss Prissy has. I think she said the next one would be in the early New Year. I got on hers this year at the last minute and was so happy that I could. Adam from TN made a block for that as well. All the blocks where so cool, I bought the fabric to finish the quilt but had to set it aside to do my sewing for my Christmas presents.

CoyoteMagic I just don't understand why you are not allowed in the fabric store with a debit card but I have a sollution for you, BRING CASH. That will work LOL. Would love to see a picture of the 2 quilts you are making. Glad to see you here to make them.

PeeplessinNC thanks for the laundry mat tip will have to remember that one.

Welcome to all and thanks for sharing sites and pictures. Keep them coming.

I agree. The ones I am finishing up for Christmas are going to the laundromat. I did one here at home, and I was cleaning my dryer forever.

That pioneer braid is neat!

Im also making a Raggedy quilt. Mine is all in solid colors. When I sew the X through the square, I use a wavy stitch and it looks cool. I also invested in the Fiskars scissors that are specifically meant for cutting ragged quilts. Im hoping that it will make it easier. Keep your eyes open for a good scissors sale.

Coyote, next time Im in NC, Mary Jo's is at the top of my list since I didnt get a chance to shop there before I left NC in June. Ive heard that it is a full day experience.

Mary Jo's Fabric Store in Gastonia, NC near Charlotte is FREAKIN' FANTASTIC! She has tons of quilting cottons - all nicely categorized with funky homemade signs. The prices are good because she sells so much. A word of warning: they may still be tearing the fabric for your amount if that makes you crazy! The staff and Mary Jo are very helpful and usually there are plenty of ladies to cut for you.

I've gotten bored with my patterns lately. I did over 20 quilts in the Yellow Brick Road patten It's quick and easy. I gave all of those away to a place called KARE for kids in the NC mountains. I just finished 6 I-spy's that will be sent up there too. Plus I have made for me, 2 Log Cabins. Both Snoopy prints. One Easter, one Valentines to display on the wall. (I've got the tops done, but not quilted yet) Plus a Red Hat Log Cabin for my Mom for Christmas.

I was at Sew Much Fun in Gastonia, NC the other day and picked up a few Strip Piecing patterns. They look quick and easy.

In addition to my 2 Pink Ribbon quilts, I've also got 2 "Bra" quilts in the works. We (girlfriend and her 2 daughters)are making "Bras" using fabric and lots of lace and stuff. When we are done we are going to donate to one of the Breast Cancer programs. Here's a link
