First, sorry for the off topic on the puzzle, so I'll try to be quick.
This puzzle has been in our family for way too long. All the kids have done it ... over and over again ... for years. But along the way a couple pieces jumped ship! I didn't want to give it up, so this is the result ... being the artsy/crafty person! The puzzle was put together and then deconstructed in sections leaving the main body (center). That was glued on the back to create a rigid unit. Sections were then worked and glued also. some pieces were left as singles for the final. Then, slowly, I worked a border under the main child ... some 2-3 units deep. This raised up the puzzle... oh I used a special board for the backing (thanks hubby ... he is a cabinet maker/tradeshow booth man ... his idea for the board ... it is easily "destroyed" with a pair of crafting pliars!). Lastly I cut some units from the sides and placed them in the center to hold up the main puzzle unit. All glued together I scattered smaller units and coated with another layer of crafting glue to give the whole piece a texture affect. Now I am pulling the backing away from the edges ... slowly ... and finally the whole unit will be coated for gloss and protection. Gonna hang in the pool/play room (big people play room now that most of the kiddos are gone!).
This is the whole ... as of today.
This is a close up of the edging.
Youngest daughter is taking the idea one step more and creating a mask for her 4-h project out of puzzles! She is doing a series of masks with unique ideas ... medias and topics for her last year.
I like that pattern. I prefer patterns that have movement in them...I'll have to write this one down so I don't forget. Pretty colors too (my colors!)
@ dbunni, pretty little quilt! I gave up on hand quilting years ago and own a longarm...just never use it. Oh, that's because it takes me forever to finish anything.
Ok,, I admit, I'm doing the happy dance, I'm excited, I just finished my first real quilt done only by me and with all pieces of fabric coming from BYC members in swaps and gifts. It's a rag quilt, the squares started out 6" each. I sewed two together with an X in the middle and then pieced it together. I clipped the edges a bit and I've rinsed and dried it twice. My mom is holding it up for me. I stayed up all night two nights to do it and I'm so thrilled I just can't stand it!!!!! I've almost got a top done now with some solid color blocks and blocks made from the flower strip swap we did.
Rag side:
I like that rag quilt. You did a good job on it. I can see why you're so pleased. The other quilt looks great also. I'm still working on the two hand pieced quilts I started. The 6 pointed star and hexagon is about 2/3's done and the paper pieced flower garden has about 6 rows done. They take time by hand but this is the only way you can do these two.
I just finished the strip/solid square top except for putting the solid edge around it. I'm not sure what I'll do, ok,,, I don't know what to do lol. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it for help.
