BYC Spinning Fiber

Quote:
The yak blend is near-fingering weight, two plied. I imagine the yak would be similar to buffalo, but I can't imagine a bikini out of it! MullersLaneFarm, have you ever spun camel? The down is extremely soft and easy to spin, like cashmere.

I have camel in my fiber stash, but it's only a couple oz so I'm looking at things to blend it with, or to ply it with and haven't found that 'perfect' fiber yet.

I've spun buffalo - actually starting with raw buffalo. A friend and I were able to find at least 6 different 'types' of fiber on that single buffalo. A LOT of work it was, but oh-so-beautiful!

I'm spinning an off-white cotton/silk blend right now. It will be plied with a multi-colored cotton for sock yarn.

The Ashford Traveller (DD, DT)was my first wheel. Love, love, love it!

My next 2 wheels are antique, (one Saxony, the other a walking wheel). Both are in working order, but I don't spin on them much.

Ashford Traditional was the wheel I got to teach spinning with. I eventually sold that to one of my students.

My main wheel is a Kromski Sonata DD with a WooLee Winder. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

I have a jumbo bobbin for the Traveller and use that to ply with and to spin bulky yarns.

Where the heck is Macoupin County, Illinois??? I'm in North West/Central IL. On the Illinois Ravelry group, there are a lot of spinners from southern IL.

There is a Fiber Festival in 2 weeks in Earlville, IL and one October 17 put on by the Bishop Hill Fiber Guild.

Have you ever spun in public?? You might be surprised how many folks in your area do spin! I spin at our Farmer's Market every Saturday. I'm met no less than 5 spinners (2 of which I taught to spin).

I've been getting ready for the Fiber in the Park today. Decided I would try my hand at selling my hand painted rovings (and my milk soaps). Plan on giving lessons for hand painting roving as well.

I dyed 2.5 lb of roving today:

Macoupin county is south of Springfield, Il. in central IL. There are some that spin around here, but I don't know them, maybe I will meet them though.
Nope, never spun in public. I'd love lessons sometime, I taught myself and would like to learn more.
beautiful hand painted fiber there, you sell it online too or just at festivals or markets?

I would probably sell online if I would make the time to put them on my webpage or Etsy shop!!!

These are all 2 oz rovings (most are a bit more than 2 oz) and sell for $6 plus shipping.

here are a few other that will be for sale at the fiber fest

If I get time to dye up a few more pounds next weekend, I might offer these for sale online before the fiber fest. I want to make sure my booth is full for the fiber fest though.

That wool is sooooo beautiful! I'm usually partial to more earthy colors but those look like a rainbow which I guess would be "sky-ie" colors.

I used to want to spin but now I just like admiring others who spin!
