BYC's 17th Annual New Year's Day Hatch-Along—2026

Lol, I'm also gonna try to restrain. We just got -3 degree (fahrenheit! Can you believe it?) yesterday night, and weather is so bad recently that I can't even take the Halloween chicks out all day until they're at least 8 weeks old lol. Also all 4 of them turned out to be roosters. Also hawks been visiting every day terrorizing the chickens. Also have 17 chicks arriving in may and our run is desperately too small for 40 future chickens and we have to expand before we get any more chicks..................

Okay. I think that was enough rambling. I'll follow this thread!!!
Yeah I'm realizing my open air runs, which are great for 9 months of the year, aren't so great for raising chicks over winter.

My hens eggs., i have tan ones also i may set, but these gray ones look fertile.

I think I will just set on Friday after all. Tomorrow I will get more eggs from a near by farm. But it will be a small batch. Tan eggs will be included.

Here are the eggs I chose for the final count. I will not slip in extras once set, (so no staggered hatch for me.)

15 total. My eggs are the 2 small gray eggs on top. the other eggs I got from a friend, today, ang the white egg is from the feed store fridge. But I have hatched them before. A near by farm.
