Yes and I have / had another egg I was thinking about. Naw I won’t. This hatch has gone toooo long. But when these 60 eggs per year hens lay you have to think hard about not hatching. I really don’t think I get 60 per year out of them.
It’s 39 degrees out this morning.
I'm the Evil on your shoulder saying "add the egg."

Oooh...39 degrees is just rude of Mother Nature. Ouch.

This was my first hatch.

The eggs these chicks were from were already over a month old at the time of setting. I was fortunate that the humidity that year was extremely high. I think that's what saved the eggs. The eggs sat in the barn in the nests until I gathered them for the incubator when it was finished. They hadn't been turned. I began stagger hatching because I couldn't fit all the eggs in and I extracted the nonstarter eggs with new eggs hoping to save some of the embryos. Below is what I saved.

The white chick to the farthest left with the clean dark legs...she's the hen below.

This is a pic of her in January. She has been one of the healthiest, robust chickens I've had. Because of her age and diminutive size, I moved her with the rest of the chickens who require extra care. Everyday (with nice weather) I move the group outside for the day. I move them back inside overnight. The entire group is 6 years old, with the exception of Ms. Chookers.

The gray chick in the above pic turned out to be one of my best hens as well. She just passed this fall.

The late eggs have arrived at the post office! I am the only one over here in the real world that is excited. My human family could care less 😆

Bummed that they weren’t in time for the HAL, but I’ll share the breeds and photos once they’re picked up in an hour or so.
We are excited! :ya

You have a variety of breeds to set! I set older eggs and quite often don't have mine all develop. But the same, I am ok with that. What day do you leave them to to make certain they aren't developing? I think I leave mine until day 7. If they're dark and I can't see, I keep them in longer.
Usually day 10
