So my Halloween chicks hatched a day early! Should’ve known, all my chicks hatch on day 20.🤣
I count this group as one hatch, though it was a bit staggered, they started hatching on the 27th. Total chicks hatched out of eggs put in lockdown: 14/15.🥰

Total chicks hatched in this hatch-along: 40😃
I have some more Silkie eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch on the 7th and 17th of November!
Good luck to everyone on the Halloween hatch-along with your hatches!❤️
Adorable 🥰 congratulations on your hatch!!!!

Trick to designer hatches?
I've been weighing, candling, praying,...last hatch was really bad so doing everything I can for this group.
So total projected weight loss needed was 89g. I'm at 73g at 19 days. *remember, guineas, so lockdown is day 25 unless they decide otherwise (they often do), hatch date 28 days.
Where was I.,.73g, which means they've to shed 16g more.
Here's the thing..some eggs started at 46g, some started at 36g. So some have hit their target, some need to keep going while the midgets work on growing.
Running 36% humidity, 99.5 ish.
A lot of you have NR360- I have 5 thermometers and 3 hygrometers in mine in addition to the unit. One side runs cooler than the other by a cpl of degrees. The only one that agrees w/unit is the mercury one lying in the egg crate directly under the heat. I've been rotating the eggs position in addition to turning, since they're in eggcrate.
I feel like I've over explained..my question is, if I park my smaller eggs on the cooler side and the heavier eggs on the warmer side, will that have any effect on wt loss?
You've kept very detailed track of everything.
I suddenly feel inadequate at hatching. :)

I have no specifics I can add to Ron's answer other than my incubator has cooler spots as well. I've found it best to rotate the eggs to different areas throughout my incubator so they develop equally. My method is to do this when I candle. I set full-sized eggs to tiny Old English Game Bantam eggs at the same time.

This is an interesting article for everyone's perusal.

Doesn’t freeze often enough to worry
We barely had any days below 30F last year!
I am envious. :)
It's been down to -8 C (17.5 F) here. All the water dishes were frozen solid.

We went away for a relative's destination wedding in 2013 in November; corral cleaning was scheduled for when we got back. It dropped into the -30's and we had to abort because he was peeling up large chunks that couldn't be spread.

I'm hoping everyone gets nice weather for this fall. :fl
Especially for all these lovely chicks!! :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

Is everyone having as much fun this Halloween HAL as I am?????? :celebrate
Huge Thanks to our BYC sponsors, Staff, Project Managers, and Participating Members!!!!!!!!

I dislike getting behind and missing out here. I'm happy and relieved to be caught up.
