If you have the means to care for them you should. I've raised chicks as late as October here. They did okay and were big enough by the time winter set in. I did have to use a 250 watt bulb in my heat lamp and used it for longer than I would in spring.

Oct. 10 is a Friday this year.

I am going to get eggs from a friend. The rooster is a bcm but a splash. The hens are LO or LO mixes. Some of the mixes are black. I am hoping they will turn the chicks blue. Anyhow I am looking at one doz.

I got a preview of the eggs. They look great. Now I am just waiting for the set day, and I wish they would have a Halloween egg decorating contest!

I have decided to do the hatch! I might sell/give some of the chicks I hatch to friends, but I will do it! I started collecting eggs for the hatch yesterday. Here is my stash so far.
