Yesterday I got got a notice saying the birds had to be gone by Friday or they would come pick them up. It said that chickens are not allowed in the city which is not true. The ordinances say not within 50ft of a residence and as I live on downtown main street and technically in a commercial area they were not within 1000 ft of a "residence". Also they didn't put the notice on my door but on the front of of a business three doors down! What if I had never gotten it and they had just showed up and taken them without me noticing!!!

Anyway, all seven of my itty bitty 2lbs babies are now roughing it at hubby's brothers place in the country (possibilty of being eaten by coyote is high!) I'm going to try and appeal this but this stupid city is so backwards I knew they would come pick them up on Friday one way or another. And our shelter gives animals only three days to live!

I feel singled out. This is a small country town with who know how many chickens, goats, and other farm animals in the "poor" part of town. But my prim pristine pigeon sized ladies who are so quiet yoou don't know they are there are not allowed!

I am so so sad! Those girls are very dear to me! And very very angry at how this was handled!

Sorry. I hope things work out and you are able to bring them back home.

I'm so sorry! I wish I knew how to help. All I can do is offer my condolences. I hope you get them back soon!

Look into your city ordinances, if chickens are not prohibited you might will be able to fight it. When there is no regulation on chickens the only reason for their removal might be the public nuisance. You saying that your hens are quiet.
Don't give up!
Good Luck!

Not to pick nits, but if you live there, it is a residence. It is where you reside.

I hope you can convince the powers that be to let you bring your birds home. Did someone complain about them?

Well technically I'm not supposed to live here and the rules are other a residence other then mine lol. Actually I think someone complained about them as a way to get at the gay church two doors over. Because the notice was on their door and they don't even have a back door to my space. I don't see how anyone with half a brain could think they belonged to them.

It was very official lol honestly someone prolly called it in, the city sent the notice without bothering to check the actual rules, and they would have come and picked them up the next day and just chopped their heads off. After all they are "just chickens". I live a small minded dumb town. All they can see is farm animals (this a rural area), and they don't want faaaaarrrrmmm animals in their city. Anyone who wants chickens must be those illegal Mexicans. They probably think the gay church was using them for voodoo or something (they are very very hateful and ignorant to anything not bible belt). If I stay here I'm going try and get them to change the laws but I highly doubt they will. They already think I must be some weirdo since I own an art gallery. I'm trying to get out of this place and move to Santa Fe. The hippy capital loves chickies
