Do you sell your eggs? I have nine hens that lay and there are more eggs than we can use so I give most of the extras away in exchange for veggies out of date that my friends would normally throw in the trash. It's a good way to recycle and save on feed. I have a few that donate a few bucks here and there to help towards feed. I have a vegetable garden also and they get a lot from it too. The garden has been good this year. We've been eating red potatoes for the past month and still have green peas in the freezer. The zucchini is on it's second growth and we're getting yellow squash and of course tomatoes. Our children live so far away. My hubby has a daughter in Bakersfield that takes eggs when we visit and I have a daughter that lives in Visalia who likes the eggs but it's hard to get together during the school year as she teaches school and my husband and I both work part time. The rest of our family is scattered. I have a daughter and her family in WA and two sons and another daughter in NC. My hubby's family is in KS, two daughters and a son and their families and he has a sister there that is 98 and another one 94. I've lost count on all the grandchildren between us but he has two great grandchildren. Gosh! guess I'll have to admit to being old.Ha!

We haven't got enough yet to sell as ours are just starting to lay, but I have a bunch of friends at school and work who want them and we plan on selling them at the farmer's market.

Hello California!

I live in Westminster/Huntington Beach and rescued a dumped rooster on Friday from a local neighborhood park. He is currently at the vet being treated for a foot problem. I am not zoned to keep this sweet boy and my family is not happy at all with his presence. I am in desperate need of a forever home or sanctuary for him. I have already contacted Hooves and Paws, Animal Acres, and Gentle Barn in Antelope Valley, but they are all at capacity. If I can not find him a home, my only option will be to euthanize and that would be heartbreaking since he is so very friendly (my vet has had him for three days and the whole staff is in love with him). I would be so grateful if anyone can help! I am willing to drive him just about anywhere. thank you!

Cari - I believe he's a Rhode Island Red, but I'm not sure. He's very skinny and appears to be molting - he's lost a lot of feathers.
