Cackle Hatchery Delivery Friday July 13th!! Anyone else expecting?

Received my order from Meyer.

They shipped on Monday, I didn't get it till today. Probably won't order from Meyer again. 4 days is too long -- especially when I paid $35 for the shipping alone!

Cackle has my chicks here in 1 day and I've never paid more than $16.

Out of the seven that I ordered, 4 are dead and one is not looking so good.

So much for the experiment of ordering from Meyer. I'll be going back to Cackle for my future orders.

Wow man, I am really sorry about that.

I was looking at ordering from Meyer also. But Cackle just sold me with the videos they have n stuff. I lost one the first night and another has has kind of joint infection in his leg but all the rest are super healthy. Cackle's selection is a little limited but that's ok.

Which ones survived?

So far, only a couple Lakenvelders and one Partridge Rock. But the PR is not drinking, even though we've dipped her beak a few times. She's not moving around. Refusing to drink. I think she won't make it... Not sure of the rest, yet.

I called Meyer and they said to call them in 48 hours because they have a 48 hour guarantee. If any others die, they'll refund my money. Not sure about the shipping charges, though.

Is the chick eating at least? If it is u can try the fermented feed. You just set some of the feed in water for a few hours. If you have some organic apple cider vinegar with the mother in it put a couple of drops of that to get the fermenting process going. The fermented feed helps get the moisture in them without having to drink. If you want to try that it might work.

I hope you get everything worked out with Meyer. Customer service sucks nowadays.

I am really worried that my chicks are not going to arrive today as expected. I am very UNDERWHELMED with my post office as well.

So I've never tracked a package with priority mail, but the last update was on 7/18 when it left Waco, TX. I am really hoping that doesn't mean the package is lost.

Ben- I'm sorry about your babies! I am somewhat comforted to know that a few made it through the ordeal, I am hoping if they don't arrive until tomorrow that there may be some survivors. It was about 106 here in Eastern Kansas yesterday though. I am not looking forward to opening a box of chicken mcnuggets instead of baby chicks :(

Hey trifecta, where did u order from? Was it also Meyer?

The chick refused to eat or drink. We tried gently pushing it into the mouth, but it just regurgitated. We held it and loved it along its path, but that path was not the one we hoped for.

She passed last night.

The other chicks are looking pretty sad, now, too... They don't appear to be thriving, either. I'm afraid it's going to be a total loss...

Ahhh so sorry Ben, my condolences-- do you have other chickens to fall back upon or does this leave you chicken-less?....

I have 35 five-week olds, 45 four-week old Pharoah Coturnix quail and 25 more chicks arriving from Cackle next week.
