Cackle hatchery inbreeding?

So, you obviously sent off specimens to have them checked for diseases, correct? What were the results?

No I didn't. I got them thru Rural King and I notified them. They just said come back up and get your money back. I said you don't want the chicks back and she said no. I didn't even think about having them tested to be honest. The two chicks that lived are doing great.

why are you getting down on people. We are here to learn but not be scolded. i think that you could word things a little nicer and people would learn from you instead of just getting mad at your replies.

Inbreeding, per se, likely wouldn't cause the majority of your order to drop dead during or just after the shipping process. I mean it COULD, but probably would cause the chicks to just not hatch in the first place, or cause evident defects like cross beaks, leg problems ,etc.

More likely is something about the shipping- when the whole order dies like that it's usually because chicks got too hot, too cold or were in transit too long.

I have never ordered from cackle myself because of all the posts on here about their less-than-stellar customer service. Not just one person, but several have posted about lack of communication and order screw-ups. That makes me more leery to order from them than hearing your chicks didn't make it through transit...

That's the power of a forum like this though - it allows people who may have thought their experience with a particular company or egg seller, etc was unique, only to find when posting that there are several, or even MANY others with the same issues with the same sellers.

I say to everyone....be thoughtful before posting anything negative about any company.... For me, I'd not post anything negative until I'd had a chance to actually follow up or attempt to get satisfaction from the company/seller first. There's a huge difference in my mind between having a problem and then getting prompt and courteous resolution and attention when I notify the seller, and getting rude responses and bad customer service...

The barred rocks were the only ones that died ...thats why I assumed that something was wrong. All of the other chicks were doing good and they were all in the same area. We have tried calling every other day since they died to ask them what was happening..The one time we got ahold of them -when we were checking to see if they sent the chicks-took us an hour and a half..we just kept pushing redial till they picked up. I never said they were inbreeding I said I thought they MIGHT be...thats the only reason that I could think of that only one of the breeds died.

WisconsinChick, I read your earlier post, that said the chicks arrived healthy and in good shape. They looked really good in the pictures. When did you start having trouble with them and what were their symptoms? It would be so awful to lose so many. It's awful to lose any.

None of them had any symptoms. They were dead the next day.
