the edge of insanity
Has anyone had any issues with Cackle Hatchery? They ship a minimum of 15 birds and are out of Lebenon, MO. I've tried calling but the choices (1,2,3) are all about ordering and when I pushed zero to check those choices again, I was hung up on. My question was can I pick my date of delivery or rather when they ship them to any extent. I have never ordered through the mail before so what is the standard protacol? Thanks!

Well you can only pick shipping dates they have. They ship chicks when they hatch. You can order online as well...

I picked my date when ordering though the computer from Cackle. They did not have enough to meet my order so they actually shipped two days later. They did let me know of the delay. I have no complaints about them, although it is hard to get them on the phone. Just keep hitting redial and eventually someone answers. It took me over 15 minutes when I called them.

depending on the breed and time of year depends on the availability. You can request a certain time and they will do the best to fill it. As for the phone. Cackle is always terribly busy during the spring. Only thing to do is keep trying.

Thanks so much for the quick response! My worry is that they would not have the breed of chicken I want at the time I *need* it. I want it to coincide with an order of chickens I get to drive & pick up. My guess is that it is not going to be possible. Thanks! My other option is to just place an order and cross my fingers and hope I get the chicks sooner vs later.

Thanks a lot! It is also much more expensive to order them online due to shipping charges. I am looking at $20 minimum shipping charge with them. Is that typical? I know my pet chicken's shipping charge for 5 chickens was $35.00 due to having to ship them express mail.

That sounds about right. Shipping varies due to location. But I think I've paid right around that. Also, I've noticed that sometimes the shipping gets adjusted. I don't know if the online calculator is 100% correct.

I ordered sixteen chicks today from them. They ship on march 30. Never used them before, I will post after I receive. total cost was fifty six dollars. franko

My dad purchased 15 RIR`s and 15 Black aust`s from the for me as a Bday gift, well they told my dad I would get them the end of march...pleanty of time to get the pen and house built. haha no such luck, they came a month early!!! scrambling to get it all done before the 18 turkeys he ordered (said end of may) get here. I just hope they don`t come early. My dad did say the person he talked to was real nice and helpful. Good luck with the new chicks

i ordered the small order bantam special about a week ago. Did it online saying I want them asap. I still have no idea when they are actually coming. I have emailed them because my card still hadn't been charged and they told me they were backed up. This is the first time ordering from them so I really have no idea how to soon to expect them. They were super quick with replying to my email though! Only a couple hours, and seemed really nice. I really think the wait is going to kill me!!!

I received the chicks yesterday morning and they are perfect. I am very pleased. They took to the brooder, water, food the minute I put them in it. Didn't lose a one.
