Nice ! Thanks everyone for your input. It all makes sense now, so in order to get the "surprise package" I either need to get busy building more coops or get a tobacco barn ) .

Nah. You can eat and sell a bunch, and then keep the ones you want. Build the coop that holds the number of birds you want to over-winter--it'll force you into not over-wintering too-big of a flock.

I've ordered this every year since I first saw it three years ago--I only end up keeping 10 or so. I'm keeping more this year because the assortment I got was almost perfectly in-line with the breeds I would have specifically ordered.
