Caged Hens Campaign

I do apologize if I was a bit harsh, but being uninformed and opinionated will always draw out conversation. I've said on quite a few threads how I feel about consolidated feed lots, battery birds, but the truth is, I don't have enough land and growing season to raise all my own meat and produce. Cage free birds vs battery birds.... cage free birds have a worse life by every study I've ever read.. the eggs have a higher likelihood of being contaminated in a cage free environment, and to truly free range every chicken so every egg is free range...well that would put us back 80 years ago to where poultry prices where. Way up there.
ETA - I don't always like it, but I do go to the grocery store.

Well said, but dude!!! It wasn;t you.

I just wish folks would temper their zealousness with a little bit of reality.

I recently watched a "How It's Made" episode that had humanely caged birds.... They had lenty of room to spread their wings, wander about, etc. Not all batteries are cruel.

and cage free birds have .33sq feet more floor space than battery birds

I totally agree with you there, Debi. The unfortunate thing is, even the businesses that tried to improve their caging into a more humane set up were crushed by Prop 2.

Like I said, not all batteries are cruel. The one I saw on that show was very clean!!!!

I think a huge point was missed, in this whole argument, and that is, the brainwashing of children.....No longer, is school about teaching simple facts, and functions, to get one started on a solid path, in life, but bending their minds, to embrace one philosophy or another...... I believe it started in ernest, in the mid to late sixties, and has snowballed, since then.

The other side of this same coin, is some 'Vegan' teacher, telling the children, what horrible creatures, human beings are, who consume those precious, innocent animals....It's really no different.

Excellent points
I have heard it said that the public education system's {actual}main purpose is to create a subservant workforce that is conditioned to avoid thinking for themselves..

Another interesting thought- we are just now getting our own eggs from our hens, I am finding people find our free-range, organic brown eggs 'ewwy'. I think it is something!!

(most) successful industries know to target the next generation to sustain their industry.

parents can do so much and in the end MANY factors will contribute the next generations of thinking.

many people will not care about their food sources. their lives in cities or wherever means they do not have to think about it and can do other stuff in life without a worry in the world regarding their food and its source. So targeting kids with an acceptance of this industry is very clever media tool.

The only brain-washing I see is by the writer of the article. Completely biased, uneducated on the facts of animal husbandry in industry. Ludicrous article.
