Newbie here well to goats and possible calf

list of supplys needed I have a Tractor supply nearby what do I need to get

Calf is between 3&5 weeks had colostrum and is on medicated calf starter, and drinks milk from a bucket, and is on hay

Goats are about 8 months old had all shots and wormed female nubian, boer cross

Thanks a bunch Anne

Put a down payment to hold them for me on the goats

One looked a little underweight=/ They appear to be fed just hay, no minerals seen, or freechoice baking soda, no grain. Question

I bought loose minerals formulated for goats, and purina goat pellets. How should I introduce them to these without upsetting their bellies? Also got a eatible wormer for goats, says 1lb per 100lb goat fed in 6-8 hrs. Should I worm them when I get them or not try too much stuff at once? These goats seem to be not too well cared for and are under 1 yearold. Seem like they were kept as pets for the kids. Their teeth and feet seemed to be in good shape, just the one seems a little underweight.

I give my calfs 20/20 milk replacer. 2 quart bottles, one am and one pm. They are weaned off milk at 75 days. When I start weaning them. I just give one bottle at pm for the last 2 weeks. I also start giving them sweet cob at 3 days old and pretty much free choice till about 6 month old, when they go out to the bigger pasture. Hay, fresh water, and a salt block is also needed. Some people vaccinate their cows, I don't unless they are sick cause we use them for meat. I do give them probias though.

The goats need hay, fresh water, if they are skinny, pregnant, lactating, maybe really cold weather, you can give them some grain....like goat chow. They need loose minerals as well.

I give my goats vaccinations vit b complex, cdt, selenium, probias, and wormer if needed.

Their feet will need to be trimmed every few months as well. There are videos on youtube and also need some small pruning shears or like.

I hope this helps.

If you're not already a member, I would suggest checking out our sister site, www.backyardherds.com There is a lot of information to be found there for both cattle and goats.
