waititout posted about a sick Silkie. We worked out that the poor thing was probably injured. Lot's of great care went into helping, but she did not make it to morning. We were all very sad about it. Lots of condolences were offered and a very nice life message from Mario was repeated by Shantih

I gave all the ducklings baths last night. What a stinky poopy mess. They had fun! In my tub. Which now needs to sanitized. LOL!

Anyone know how to self worm your dogs? I know you can use Ivermectin. That's the stuff in the wormer chew Alice got that got rid of her round worm (or tape worm...I saw the worms they looked like giant white bean sprouts lol). So nasty. It's so expensive to buy that stuff from the vet! I have 4 cats and 1 dog to flea treat too. I'd just buy the stuff from vet but the outdoor cat that adopted us 2 years ago has a very swollen foot and needs to go to the vet...I have to pick one thing. :( I pick wounded cat...but still need to work and flea treat my animals. I know you can self treat for worms and you can buy a large dog flea treatment and then dose all the animals according to size. I can't find the right info on the dog...but I have the cat info marked somewhere. Anyone know?

Yes, use the ivermectin. It treats all of what you posted about except tape worms(the ones you saw were not tape worms) yes fleas and even heart worm.

Just look up the dosage. Sorry, I do not know the dosage.

I'm watching the livestream reporting on the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. They are reporting that 27 are dead and 18 of those are children. How heartbreaking!

It was great meeting you too, although I spent $354 dollars at Costco! And that was the follow up to what DH spent there a couple of days ago, $300

And we aren't even talking Christmas presents. You'd have thought I'd bought one of those $200 prime grade Prime Rib roasts they had there. I looked at DH and said I'd slaughter one of the turkeys!

Those bean sprout worms are round worms. Very common in puppies and pretty easy to treat. I used to have taped in a cabinet door the chart for liquid ivomec for worming dogs, but I think I tossed it in the kitchen remodel. Our vet used to dispense small bottles of the liquid along with a needleless syringe and you'd just squirt the dose into their mouth based on the dog's weight. I'm sure you could find it on the net, just be sure you know what form of liquid to buy, cattle/swine/pour on/etc.

You too Mike :) I have met some really great people while raising chickens ... You are one of them. :) How did your new chicks do last night?

Thanks Molly.

I know what you mean. Everyone that i have met from this thread has been super cool and super helpful. We really are like family here.

The bielefelder chicks are doing great! I gave them save-a-chick when they first came home.Today i gave them 1/2 dose of Vitamins & electrolytes from duravet, and they are bouncing around the brooder! Its funny.

Something funny happened yesterday.
I was at hawes ranch getting hay and chick starter. The lady that's normally there asks what kind of chicks i got. So i told her about the bielefelders. About where they came from and about their rarity. Then she just interrupts me and says "Oh They're not that rare!" i said "umm, who has them?" Then says "Anna in Bella Vista!" "A few more people have them, but i don't know their names." I said ok. Ill have to look into this.
Does anyone know Anna in Bella Vista? She said she didn't know any last name or the name of her farm.

So i asked her if she ever is online on BYC or rarebreedauction dot com and she almost interrupts me again and says "No,never."
Lol I felt animosity coming from her for some reason.
Could she have been lying about Anna in Bell Vista? This is not the first time this same lady was rude or showed some kind of attitude toward me. I laughed them i walked out. But i don't think Im going back to Hawes Ranch.

I would find a new place to buy supplies from too, that lady is unpleasant to say the least.

Anything that includes heartworm treatment can not be used for cats. I did 3 cats to 1 lg dog advantage. I think?
