Wow the past 2 days have been exhausting! 1st the non stop rain and my not too bright Silkie didn't mix, she got soaked trying to hang out with the other chickens so had to bring her inside for a bath and the blow dryer. My mom came over to visit and she saw the Silkie just standing there on a towel loving the warm air, she was amazed that a chicken would let you use a blow dryer on her lol. She was cold, her beak was chattering. It took quite some time to dry all her fluffy feathers back into a poof.

2nd, I did my usual marathon cookie baking event, I give out cookies as gifts to my family. They are packed and done finally. Then, had to cook 3 pork shoulders into a huge vat of chile verde which I have never made before; hope it's ok. We will find out today lol.

This is the first Christmas for me and my almost 3 year old without my husband, who was killed in July when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. Please send us some prayers if you can.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

So sorry to hear. Sending lots of prayers your way!

My silkies love the bath and blow dryer as well. They are so nice to cuddle when they are actually clean!

And that dinner you have planned sounds amazing. I...must...get...started! Humph

What a wonderful Silkie story! Good thing you were there for her.

Maybe Santa will bring her a mini raincoat!
We will be thinking of you this Christmas. Best wishes to you and your family for the coming New Year.

We had more rain at once than I have ever seen on this ranch, yesterday! We don't usually flood but had standing water everywhere and small streams crossing several areas. Bottom of the property flooded and pond overflowed onto our road. First time ever that the pasture chickens wouldn't leave their coop. I still had shopping to do and waited until the rain let up. Roads were flooded on my way out to town. On my return, they had closed the highway back home! Luckily it was in Madison/Esparto, so I was able to drive side roads to get access to the highway and get home.
So glad to see sun this morning!
