Quote: I am still struggling with not getting my notices about my subscriptions so am way behind & trying to catch up.
I am systematically going to each subscription on my list, reading all new posts, then putting it in my favorite places for future quick reference.

Hi to all having notification problems.

Change your subscription settings. Here is a screen shot:

I hope this helps

I'm not getting my subscription notifications either. I tried all the fixes suggested and now I get a few of them but not many. Nifty suggested going to a different email address and that worked for some folks but I'd rather just have to check for them once on BYC than to have to manage another email address. I think they will have to come up with a better fix. Otherwise new folks will not bother with BYC unless they happen to have hotmail or one of the other more lax email providers.

I agree completely with this. If the notification emails are tripping spam filters, then the emails generated by the site should be fixed.

This should be easy to do. We don't need emails with advertisements in them and other Spam type of content. I changed my subscription setting to no pause and boy did I get a lot of emails! The easter Hatch forum is crazy busy

Kim,
Yes I think I would like to try some but want them to be as good as I can manage of course. The two 4 toe ones will go to the layer pen or sold to people that don't care.
As far as so many breeds, I really enjoy it but it has been a hassle getting pens set up because I do not cross breed at all. I am still working on paring down what I have.
Ron,
Glad to hear you are getting a new & different start. Maybe that will help us all.
Cheryl,
All those Marans I just hatched were for Carrie Stroble, not mine. Or do you mean because I am keeping 3 or 4 varieties of just Marans?? I am ousting some & will try to breed even better as I go along. I am liking my eggs better & better & will take a bunch to the Fresno show. If I keep this up I will end up with more dark eggs than anything else & that really wasn't my goal.....LOL

When the site first changed over, I received all of my notifications for every thread that I'm subscribed to. Then last week, all of a sudden I stopped receiving any of them. I did all the fixes suggested yesterday and today I got 2 notices but that was it. I just keep going to my subscription page to check to see if there have been new posts. Strange...

my new Genisis 1588 was delivered yesterday. It has new digital controls! It has a temperature adjustment on top of it along with a built in digital thermometer and hygrometer. The old one had dip switches you had to move on the bottom. They were clunky.

Of course I have it set up in my walk in closet(or should I say hatching room). I have one of those water weasel toys with the Brinsea thermometer probe in it. Over night the weasel probe got up to 98.7. I will check it tonight at 24 hours to see what it gets to. I am supposed to get the internal temp of the egg to 99.5 right?

Do any of you sand your eggs before setting them? if so, is this to help you see into the egg or is it done to speed up the evaporation of the eggs? On the Easter hatch forum someone said this is good for Marans eggs, but that it seemed to only help with shipped eggs. I don't know what to think

. There is so much to learn!

sanded egg looks like this:

Ron I don't sand my eggs when I hatch. I feel like the protective mucous coating would be destroyed and that would make the eggs more porous, making it easier for bacteria to get in. Since marans eggs have such a thick non-porous shell I can see how folks would think this would increase the hatch. Some chickies just can't seem to make it through that tough shell. Plus they would be much easier to candle. I personally believe that the less intervention the better. The stronger chicks are the ones that hatch by themselves and that improves the breed.

OK, OK, I have helped a chick or two (or 12) out of the shell but I really do try to resist! But once they have pipped and started to zip it's really impossible to ignore their little peeps for help! I have no idea why someone would say it only helps on shipped eggs though. I can't understand what the logic would be behind that, other than shipped eggs are harder to hatch in general so any help would be welcome.

CONGRATS on the new bator!!! How exciting! And yes 99.5 for egg temp but a degree plus or minus usually works for most (IDK personally I am very anal about this sort of thing and monitor the bator constantly to try to keep the temp right on).
