California - Northern

Everyone's so nice! I have five chickens - I ordered the 15 chick, brown egg-laying variety pack from MyPetChicken last year. A raccoon got to nine of them in one night about 1 week in, and a neighbor's cat got to the 6th one about 2 months in...the cat attack left Phineas blind in one eye too. These five are the survivors.... These are the breeds...I think....
Angel - delaware (in the foreground)
Phineas - dominique (In the bamboo)...her beak is crooked too :/
Pickles - RIR
Chipmunk, and WonderTwin (the two brown ones, left and right, respectively)....I have no idea what breed they are....

If you guys are curious, I have a chicken cam in the coop...but they free range in the day, but there is IR at night:

Welcome!!

Just wondering, how many of you vaccinate for Mareks? I have always vaccinated, but am thinking about stopping. I will still vaccinate if people who buy day old chicks wants em vaccinated.

I have had a few batches of chicks raised by broodies that I did not vaccinate and have never had any come down with it, even though their mom's were vaccinated. I just wonder if it is necessary. I've heard birds often get it from the vaccine also.

I would like to see pictures of the or x polish.... Sounds interesting LOL I love booth breeds .
I will get some today. I have 5 Double Laced Blue Barnies chicks, so I need to take pictures and head over to the Barnie thread to see if they can help me sex em so I will be taking pictures today.

Oh I'm sure they are awesome, I love that coloring! I've always had some sort of hatching/chick disaster (my fault) when I was hatching them, so they are absent form my backyard

I still vaccinate and that reminds me since I am hatching the last of my breeding flocks eggs now, I need another couple of doses...yikes

I've often thought of stopping, but I always vaccinate my broody chicks too, even-though they obviously don't have the same 10 day restrictions from the soil control etc as you have when not using a broody. I'm still on the fence about the whole thing, but I guess it's a small price, energy & money, to pay for some sort of piece of mind, even if not 100% effective... my 2 cents
