So my free $100 rooster is in West Sac and on his way to Placerville tonight. I stopped at the back door to get the time the transfers get there...
So excited. Have to finish the posts Saturday and the fence Sunday.. I will have to add quick set to the concrete.
At least up here the weather is warming and most of the snow melted. The posts I set last week still look wet.

Hooray - is that the Empordanesa rooster? Will you be able to pick him up tonight? Otherwise he might wake up the post office tomorrow morning - that would be one funny candid camera show!

You are moving right along with your setup, great to hear.

Its warmer here too and I really appreciate it. I have been working on pens outside also, and planning for new ones. Chicken Math strikes again!

This was one of my hatchery "Americana" (that's the breed they said she was, I know there's no "i" in Ameraucana) chickens who laid beautiful blue egg. I had 4 that looked just like this and they all laid really blue eggs.


Does anyone remember the Huel Howser show where they showed the fields of Marigolds that were grown for commercial chicken feed to give the yokes color?

Hey - that looks exactly like my chickens! I bought them as Americanas from the hatchery too - they call them Easter Eggers on this site. Mine all lay blue to blue/green eggs too.. beautiful. I have heard that feeding them carrots or things with carotene will make them a brighter blue. I hadn't heard about feeding them marigolds to give the yolks color - mine eat corn and bugs and grass - and that makes the yolks bright orange!

Absolutely beautiful eggs! That was the color 2 of mine laid 25 yrs ago. How long ago did you have these? Do you remember the hatchery?

Didn't see the marigold show, but I've heard about adding carotiniods to the feeds. Did you hear that Huel Howser died about a week ago? He wasn't very old. 67 or so.

Did I miss what breed the free $100 rooster is? Pene? We got a free $12K boat a few years back. Should be warming up for you, when I left work tonight I was surprised how warm the air was after the freezing cold we've had forever. Don't forget to post pictures.

They're all so cute. Congrats! Are the Legbar boys told by the white on the head? Can the white CLs be sexed also?

The boy CLs are over all more gray. The girls have brown and a distinct chipmunk pattern. Not all of the boys will have the white dot but they will not have the brown or very much of a chipmunk pattern.

Yes, I can still sex the white ones. It's a little trickier ... But you can still see a shadow..
