Quote: If you open up the BYC Calendar and go to June, you will see 2 EEs that I picked up for $3.50 each! I bought them to keep a GLW company. He wound up being a Roo and the EEs got to go live with Amy Beth.
Yours laid beautiful blue eggs! Sorry about the predators.
Thanks Ron. I love those two girls in Amy Beth's photo and they look just like my girls looked. Maybe the path to blue eggs is cheap chicks from the feed store! Maybe I'm trying to hard!![]()
I have a RIR that is screaming louder then any hen I've ever had when I come close to her laying in the barn. I thought for sure she's going broody but she hasn't committed yet. She's the right age for it, she a roo favorite and looks like heck from letting the roo breed her so I'd be happy to see her get a break...and of course, I'd love the chicks! Hope we both have broodies! Is there such a thing as pre-broody? My black Orp pullet has started to yell at us when we come into the coop lately. When she is in the lay box of course. She eventually lays her egg and leaves but the yelling is newer. She does not bite per se but if you get your hand close to her she does spank you with her head lol.
Is there a way to encourage a hen to GO broody? I need one asap. I have all these bantam eggs collected and a few EE eggs I want hatched.![]()
I have posted more then once about this....but mine sucked! I sold it as fast as I could after I cleaned it up. I got a good hatch but I had to babysit it 24/7 once they went into lock down. But maybe I had a bad one. I sold mine with the turner on Craigs List for $60http://redding.craigslist.org/grd/3553601720.html
I know it's a still air incubator but this is $75 and comes with a turner anddd a fan...deal or no deal?
Oh good, so you are in Jeff's hood already. I am in the Bay Area so a little far from you. That's so kind of you.I live in Redding. Near Bella Vista/Pale Cedro corner. I feel bad even asking Jeff! I have 7 Orpingtons- all heritage and no broodies yet. NOT complaining because its about that time they all stop laying or something lol. I just assumed someone would feel like being a parent or something. lol
Yes, I used to use it, but I would not recommend using it under trees. The leaves weigh it down and it sags easily. I used it over my chick paddock and never had a problem with hawks getting the babies. I have had hawk attacks in my un-protected pens so I know they are around.Anyone ever used vineyard netting for building coops or covering themsomeone in santa rosa area selling a lot of it am i was wondering it its strong enough to keep hawks away from the chickens
Congrats Jason!!!!! Glad he arrived safely!!!
Beautiful.. I find few things more restful than watching my chickens, so this is probably good for you. Besides, they can make you laugh too - and laughter is good medicine!
