Thanks for the encouragement, Deb!

I wasn't sure about the Lakenvelders, but the hatchery said they couldn't provide the ordered Golden Campines, so I looked at some pictures & thought I'd take a chance. I'm glad to hear that you are happy with both the breeds I selected, and the one that is being sent as a substitute. Are you raising Gold Campines? That was the breed I was especially interested in, since my "mystery" chicken I acquired from a friend was identified as a Gold Campine. She was a little hands-offish, but very sweet, and layed beatiful eggs - she probably would have been more friendly if I had had her as a baby like I did my Rocks.

I almost took home someone elses chicks from the Post Office. I stopped by to let them know I was waiting for a chick shipment, and I heard baby chicks from the counter. The clerk brought the box up, and I was about to leave, when I looked at the chicks, who didn't look like they were the right color for my order, and the shipping tag - not my babies, but a neighbors! However, at least I know that a) they call immediately when recieved (he said his wife was picking them up), and b) the chicks that were shipped yesterday afternoon made it by this morning.

I am now babbling because I'm waiting with bated breath for my new little angels

Hi Alli Lea and CapayValleyChick -

Quote: I am actually in Sacramento County, and my grandparents had an orchard in Woodland, so I'm pretty close to you guys and am familiar with the area. It's nice to have other chicken people close!

Clucks and coos!

Incubator warehouse has the plug for 69cents.

The clips are called owl clips:

http://www.amazon.com/ACCO-Regal-Le...=UTF8&qid=1361471606&sr=8-1&keywords=owl+clip

That was surprisingly hard to find.

The other thing that I really like it the Brinsea Spot check. They cost about $20.00 and are very accurate.
Yay thank you! Would the Brinsea Spot Check replace the IncuTherm?
Yes, there should be two plugs. I used tape for awhile to cover the hole to bring up the humidity - but it is better to leave them open as the chicks/eggs do need more air.

That is a very nice incubator, looks nice and clean. You will need to attach the "wafer" into the area to the left of the picture - where the yellow box is. There should also be a screw that goes thru the top to put it on. Without the wafer you will not be able to regulate the temperature.

You appear to have two broken trays - you can take them out and not use them until you get replacement trays. They are missing/broken where they would attach to the turner. The other possibility is they are in backwards - check the other end for the "arm"

The clip you showed is a paperclip - mine uses what look like cotter pin clips, straight wire goes thru the hole in the arm and an outer curvey wire to clip around the plastic.

Nice find!

P.S. - Ron's link lead me to find the turner parts: https://www.gqfmfg.com/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=50&orderBy=sku but you can use the paperclips like Deb said.
We put the therm together and it's warming up. I assume that is all I am checking for at this point right? Without the therm reader I don't know what it's doing temp/humidity wise right?
Amy, you can buy those at any office supply in a box of 100. I just use regular paperclips on mine. If you use the color coated ones, they don't get icky as soon.

I threw away the red plugs. You need airflow, most people toss them.

If you really want to plug it, a piece of tape works well.

Deb
Woo!! Genius thank you! I will just use tape seems easier for on and off too. lol

I am thinking of simply buying a new base rather than patching it up. Seems easier lol. And not too pricey really.

Yay CONGRATS!

Another idea on the missing plug, I would try a cork. I picked up a package of assorted sizes at the dollar store and they have come in handy a number of times. I have one now in the pressure cooker that I use for water bathing jams and pickles.

Quote: The spot check only checks the temperature but temperature is more important than humidity for hatching. They will hatch well within a wide range of humidity. Temperature needs to be within one degree of 99.5 internal egg temperature.

You could get by fine with the one thermometer but two really helps. I have four of them.

Put a thermometer in there.. any thermometer you can read from outside. You just want to see what range you can get it in and if it will hold steady. You will need to adjust the wafer thermostat to get it to the desired temperature. Just turning it on will only say it heats up - not that it holds the temps - and I wouldn't want to overheat anything. Did it come with any instructions? I have my old ones (somewhere) if you need me to scan it and send it to you. It gives you instructions on how to use the wafer thermostats and set them up.

I would buy a base if the old one is broken into the chamber area. If the break doesn't go into the chamber you don't need a new base. Looks are not as important as serviceability. Keep your money to buy good eggs

Thanks Ron. We have a therm reader now and so far temp is up to 84. We are trying to get the hang of the unit. lol Still need a new bottom.

I am trying to order the base but on their site I get to the page 3 and it keeps saying error. ahhh
