Thanks! I will run over there after work!
Be sure to use the salt method to check them. I used to use the reptile thermometer/hygrometers but they did not stay accurate. I have not been able to find one that is spot on, so I just use the indoor/outdoor type and cheat and put it in my Octagon 20 to check it. They are not accurate either so I just write down the difference (they show a lower reading than the actual temp and humidity) and add that difference to their readings so I know what they are "actually" running at and adjust accordingly.

"Skilled and Experienced hatchers I ordered the chicken wormer Wazine (sp?) I am apparently not supposed to be eating the eggs for 2 weeks after I give it. Then I am supposed to worm them again with a stronger wormer and presumably I am supposed to chuck those eggs too soooooo if I was planning to set eggs in a month it seems like I should hold off on worming until after I had them all collected. Am I right?"

I posted this earlier but I think it was missed so I am asking again. Thanks!

Worming is something you do before setting up for hatching. You should be fine hatching the eggs before worming but I have read that you do not want to hatch eggs from treated hens until after the with drawl period.

Healthy hens and roos produces better hatching eggs and healthier chicks. There Is a list of things to do, including giving them higher protein feed and a good vitamin like rooster booster.

You do not need to chuck the eggs. You can feed them back to the chickens or other pets.

The eggs are not bad or poisonous.

Well crud puppies! Ron! I wanted to time my hatch to coincide with the arrival of chicks from the hatchery. They get here 4/26. I do have the shipped eggs coming but the only reason I started on the hatching trail in the first place was to get my by Ray's babies.

What should I do? wait? collect the eggs in the in-between period?

Deb - I blame you!

I was going to do a "small" hatch. I've ordered some eggs, collected some of mine and I now have 46 ready for the bator.

Oh goodness, 46?

I've been wondering where all these birds are going! Do you sell, give, keep, etc.? I must know!

If you treat now and wait ten days, then the two weeks would start after second treatment. It will be close, but you should be able to squeeze 21 days of incubation in before April 26.(I would never suggest fudging....but you should be ok if you incubate a bit earlier after treating).

We had a big scare this morning, around 11am my DH just happened to look out the window and saw an adolescent bobcat slinking up the driveway.

He was going straight for the chickies who were about 20 yards away. We ran him off and gathered the girls in the coop. No more free range time unless I'm sheparding them! We will build a run now but I really didn't want to NEED one!!! Gah.

Who knew that living in the woods and having fat fluffy tasty treats running around all day would attract predators! I am just so thankful that we happened to catch the situation before any birdies got hurt.

Sigh, I feel your frustration! The bobcat would come by so often we gave it a name: Mr. Jingles. Lots of bobcats are just straight up lazy. I saw some bobcat scat with only berry seeds in it. Seriously big kitty?? Have you noticed the surplus population of wild birds that are obese and sick?
