Balthazar is still with us. He seems a bit more lively today, but I'm not sure how much of that is wishful thinking. (He has suet-type treat on his beak)

Our Sultan baby. She hates me. A lot.

Cotton is really the only sweet one of the Polish we picked up.

Love his/her blue legs. They're all getting nice real feathers on top of their heads.

This one always looks that grumpy.

balthazar looks like a Cochin or a favorelle?

They are calm and not aggressive and are prone to being beaten up by other breeds. He looks healthy so I hope he will be ok!

Quote: LOL, you asked the million dollar question. Some are shipped eggs so not all will develop, some will be roosters, like my chicken math skills? I have 13 chicks in the brooder right now too.

I'm hatching a lot of welsummers, because I'm planning on replacing some of my breeder stock. I had a couple wellie girls go broody last year. (wellies are terrible setters and mothers) It's not a trait for wellies and one I don't want in my flock. (have other breeds for broodies) Plus a couple of them don't lay as dark as I'd like. And my oldest hen is no longer laying. Soooo, I need to grow out a bunch to have a good number to choose from. I will cull the non keepers to friends houses as layers, or sell them. I'd also like to keep a son from my rooster from one of my newer pullets that lays a nice, dark egg. My rooster is getting up there in age, he's 3 1/2, so I need another "just in case".

Then, I had a terrible year with my barnevelders. I've got some blues growing out, but lost both of my pure cockerels I was growing out (to bad luck, nothing disease wise). So I'm hatching some more pures and a few blues too while I'm at it. I need to build up my stock with them.

Then I have some olive eggers that I wanted to hatch from my flock. A couple black sex links from my BR/Welsummer. They are fertile, so what the heck, I've already got the bator out.

Short answer, huh?

Just want to share some egg pics from this past week. My Langshan girls (except for 2 special ones) are all headed to the farm tonight to join the boys. I am so sad that I won't be able to look out my back door and see them. But I do want Langshan babies so have to get the boys and girls together for that to happen!

Darker brown eggs are Langshan eggs and the lighter 3 in the center are Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock eggs

Blue eggs left to right: Cream Legbar, Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, Lavender Ameraucana, Lav Am, and the little fart egg is from my Silver AM, I think!

This is the largest egg (89 g) and the smallest egg (9 g) that my girls have ever given me.

They were laid the same day. The large double yolker is from my Blue Langshan who is still walking like a penguin. She must have some major problems with her reproductive tract. She is eating well and laying so I'm just keeping an eye on her. The little blue egg is from my tiny Silver AM, I think.
Beautiful eggs! Love the tray they are on too! Good luck with your Langshan girl.

Adorable babies. And LOL on the Sultan.

For those of you around me, what do you get for laying pullets/hens price wise? I have a lady who wants to buy some off of me and I don't know what to charge. (we are actually going to trade stuff, but I need to value them) I was thinking around $20-25?

I've seen them on CL for $20. I just sold five of my laying hens that were in their second season. They were HQ girls. I had them priced at $15, but knocked it down to $10 because he also bought $190 in chicks and hatching eggs, so I gave him a $25 break on the hens.

Sorry, the kitchen timer called me away................anyway, these were big girls, each laying a jumbo egg every day, but in their second season.

I did save the final egg from the EE (covered by my Isbar roo) and put in the incubator last night. Kind of a tie to my egg girls,

If it hatches, I thought for nostalgia, I'll get a tie to the originals each time. If it doesn't hatch, I'll just pick one of the others, they'll all be OE.

I take Miss Mollys ideology. "If its a girl, its not leaving here for less than $20".

I sold almost 20 9+ month(first season) old laying hens for $20 each between craigslist and Epperson auction animal swap meet.
But i could see myself selling them for 15 especially if they are over 1 year old.

I always wanted a double yolk egg but then felt guilty for wanting one because they can't be easy to lay. :)
Hi guys!! My babies are all doing well :) I hope yours are, too!! Getting ready to worm the 2nd dose of Wazine tomorrow on my ladies a' layin'. Right after the first treatment I started getting eggs like crazy!! I'm 5/5 like every day now!! I hope this will kill everything! Their stools are getting watery again. Something strange happened today... My White Leghorn, Dolly, laid twice!! She's never done that! Is that common? I don't have xtra lighting & it's very cold & dreary here. Maybe one was stuck in the track? I had that happen with one of my production reds. She laid 29 out of 31 days a month. Sometimes she would have trouble laying because her eggs were so large and then she would lay two in one day. I found that cutting down on extra protein like from the BOSS treats reduced the size of the eggs and she was less likely to have trouble. Here's Dolly!!
Look at that RED!!!!!! Fire engine red. Our Sultan baby. She hates me. A lot. Why does she hate you? I heard these guys were super nice...... This one always looks that grumpy. [/quote] Grumpy is good. I look grumpy too but really I am not

Omg what teenagers look! Mario says they look rebellious! Whatch out. I'd think you would have 20 in feed in a pol pullet. I suppose f they have been laying eggs for a year for you that is a different story. But still! It seems cheap to me. I bought my first marans foe 25 each and they were 2 and 3 years old. She had 20 calls within minutes. They are fantastic girls but I imagine your wellies are too. They are also still laying well.
